Chapter 2: The Question Turned Out Nervous But The Answer Was Sweet
Cindy brought herself away from staring out the window and picked up her phone. She instinctively dialed Jimmy's number. RIIIING...RIIIING...
"Hello?"
"JIMMY!" Cindy squealed happily.
"Hey Cin!"
"Oh, Jimmy! I can't take it anymore! How long have we been apart?" she asked dramatically.
Jimmy looked down at his watch. "26 seconds," he told her, laughing.
"Jiiiimmyyyy," Cindy wined, "I miiiisss youuuuu!"
"I miss you too, babe," Jimmy told her. "But I gotta go now. My parents are taking me before school shopping." Jimmy rolled his eyes and sighed. "I can't wait to get my own car," he mumbled. Cindy giggled on the other line.
"OK, well, I'll talk to you after you're little shopping spree!" she said in a mocking voice.
"Ciiiin," Jimmy grumbled, "it's not funny!"
"Oh, you know you love me Jimmy!" Cindy fought back.
"Can't argue with that," Jimmy replied. "Alright, well, I'm gonna go. Talk to ya soon!'
"Wait! Jimmy!"
"Hmm?"
Cindy twisted the phone cord around her finger nervously. She took a deep, shaky breath. "Well, m-my mom is...sh-she's going out tonight...and well..." Cindy wiped her palms off on her pants. Why was this so hard? He was her boyfriend after all! "Well, I...uh...might get kind of lonely by myself so...w-would you wanna, like, come over?" Jimmy chuckled at her nervousness.
"Sure Cin," he said sweetly, "I'll call you when I get home?"
"OK!" Cindy said, breathing a sigh of relief. "Alright, well see ya tonight!"
"OK, bye Cin." Cindy waited until the line clicked off. She never heard it.
"Jimmy?"
"Yeah?"
"You're still there!"
"I'm waiting for you to hang up!"
"No, you hang up first!" Cindy said, giggling. She knew how this went, it would probably never end.
"No, you hang up first!" Jimmy fought back.
"I'm not hanging up first! You hang up first!"
"OK, we'll hang up together. OK?"
"OK"
"1...2..." Jimmy started.
"3!" Cindy finished. She clicked her phone off. After about 2 seconds it rang again.
"Hello?"
"You hung up on me!" Jimmy wined. Cindy giggled.
"We were supposed to hang up together genius!"
"I know, but I like arguing with you! I like talking to you in general," he said, a little shyly.
"Jimmy, I'll see you tonight! You go have fun on you're little shopping spree, just call me when you get back, kay?"
"Alright! This time I'm really hanging up. See ya tonight Cin." Cindy heard the line click off. She gently placed her phone back in the receiver. Now, where was that Rent CD?
