Was watching "Bad Wolf" and was inspired to write a short little drabble explaining how Jack got the key he uses to open the TARDIS when he finds it in the archive. Sometime around "Boom Town" DrJack.

Disclaimer: If I owned these two, I'd be too busy to be posting here!

Warnings: SLASH (but it's mild)

Trust.

The Doctor smiled softly at the sight of a pair of legs encased in denim sticking out from the core of the TARDIS

"Fixed it yet?" he asked grinning

A torso, a pair of arms, and finally a head emerged from the control panel

"No, I can't find the right connections setting…"

The man stood and walked slowly towards the Doctor.

"Don't you have a manual for this heap of junk?" he asked, returning the Doctor's smile

"Junk? Junk?" gasped the Doctor, affronted, "If it's that bad, you can get lost"

The other man's smile stretched further across his face, "Oh, I don't think you really want that. Besides, you might just go off while I was sulking. Leave me here."

"I couldn't"

"I know"

Jack smiled again as he leaned in to kiss those soft lips. It was a gentle kiss, understanding, loving, comforting.

This man had so much, had lost so much, and yet he let Jack be a part of his life, Jack never understood. Sometimes he wondered if the Doctor could really trust anyone. When so much had gone wrong in his life, when he'd been betrayed so many times. He'd never figured out a satisfactory answer. Never quite known whether the Doctor trusted him. Never understood.

Then he felt something cold and metal being pressed into his hand, the Doctor's lips still exploring his, and he broke the kiss.

"Thought it was about time," the Doctor said, breathing heavily.

Then Jack understood.

He pocketed the TARDIS key and pulled the other man back towards him.

"Thanks."
