He lay on his back, same as every morning, initially in fear. At this moment, he wasn't living his life. It was a prelude to the pins and needles, the steady ache, and finally the centralized pain that was his day. But for now, he was in paralysis, unable to move until the pain in his body gave him permission. He closed his eyes. Normally this was the best moment of his day, He was no one, defined by nothing. But today the loneliness moved in on him. He could still walk, but his life was paralyzed just the same. He couldn't let her go.
