It was late at night and Remus was wandering around the house. He caught sight of someone in a nice, comfy looking room with a fireplace.
He looked closely and found it was Crow.
"Hello." Remus said, coming into the room.
The boy jumped up a bit and looked at him.
His eyes were greenish yellow/orange. The eyes of a cat.
"You must be Crow." Remus said, going over to him.
The boy nodded.
"I'm Remus." He introduced himself.
"Hi." He whispered.
Remus looked at the quiet boy, before noticing something around his neck looking like a golden chain.
"What-" He was about to ask what it was before someone else came into the room.
"There you two are! Good Evening Remus. Crow, you should be in bed. It's a bit late for you to be up." It was Bartro. He walked over to Crow's chair, scooping the 14 year old boy up into his arms. He cast a look at Remus and mouthed that he wanted to speak to him when he came back from bringing Crow to his room. He left and carrying Crow off.
Remus walked around the room and noticed a sketch pad. He knew he couldn't, but he opened it up, looking at the pictures.
There was a picture of a blonde haired boy, holding a black cat with greenish yellow/orange eyes. This must've been Crow in cat form, but who was the boy? He flipped to the next page and saw a picture of Crow, in human form, being held by the blonde haired boy. They were both smiling, even though Crow in the drawing was blushing.
"Ahem." He heard. He jumped shutting the sketch pad and placed it back on the table. He turned around to face Bartro. "Crow's a good artist." Bartro said, sitting down on the couch.
"He is." Remus nodded. "He's 14 years old. Why is he here?" he asked.
"Because I bought him." Bartro answered simply.
"Before the war was over?" Remus asked, knowing the answer.
"Well, that would be illegal, than, wouldn't it?" Bartro asked. "yes." He replied.
"You have an obsession with people who aren't fully human, don't you?" Remus accused.
'You make it sound really awful when you put it that way." Bartro said, faking a hurt expression. "No. But, I don't think many people would've hesitated to buy you. And, I don't think Crow would enjoy being forced into sex, being as fragile as he is." He replied.
"You know how he ended up being for sale, don't you?" Remus asked grimly.
"Well, He's the last Shadow Cat. He's really rare. I don't think it would do good for Shadow Cats to go extinct because someone wanted to satisfy their sexual desire." He shrugged.
"How?" Remus asked.
"You see the boy in the picture you were looking at? With blonde hair? Crow loved him. But while selling slaves was illegal, that doesn't mean people didn't do it. They were separated when Crow was captured. Of course, the person who captured him didn't know what he was. No one knew what he was, because he wouldn't tell anyone. You can say I pitied him. He was beautiful and no one wanted him because he could've been anything, but wouldn't tell anyone." Bartro told him. "I bought him. He was terrified. Straight off the bat he told me he had someone who loved him. He told me of how since he was captured he got separated from him. I told him I'd do my best to help find him, but Crow told me he was probably dead by then." he finished.
"Why did you buy him?" Remus asked after a few minutes of silence, after he soaked up all of what he said.
"Well, sadly, Crow's an orphan, so he had no family that I could bring him back to. I guess you could say he grew on me… I figured there was no reason why I couldn't take him in and start a little family… I'd be like a surrogate father to him, and Pomma would fill in the spot of mother, seeing as, as soon as I brought him here she started to take care of him as if he was her own." Bartro told him. "It's late. You should turn in." Bartro said before getting up and leaving.
Remus picked up the sketch book once more and looked at the sketches. He knew what it was like to lose someone you loved dearly.
He flipped the page of the two boys and found a picture of a black cat with greenish yellow/orange eyes and another cat. A white cat with blue eyes, like the eyes of the blonde haired boy on the other page. He realized that the other boy was an animagus. He turned the page and saw a picture of the boy again. He was sitting under a tree. Underneath the picture was the neat handwritten word Julian. The boy's name was Julian.
Remus wasn't prepared for what he saw next when he turned the page.
It was a picture of Crow and a woman with black hair and blue eyes. Crow resembled her a lot so he guessed... it was Crow's mum.
He sighed closing the sketch book. Bartro was right. It was late.
