Author's Note: I am really on a role with all of my little one-shot/drabbles for Yu Yu Hakusho. I've got at least three others planned and then there will be the ones that just strike my fancy out of no where. Yay. Warnings may include, but not limited to: male/male relationships, twt, and all around lacking of any solid plot line.

Talk

"There you are Hiei, I looked everywhere for you. I was afraid that I wouldn't find you." Kurama said, staying at the edge of the clearing that he had found Hiei in. Kurama didn't want to intrude upon the fire halfling's temporary territory, especially since said fire halfling was probably still angry at him.

"Hn" Hiei replied stiffly. He wasn't really listening to Kurama. He was thinking about how to broach the subject but he could find no easy way to go about it.

"Hiei?" Kurama asked, his whole demeanor changing. He hadn't thought he had upset the other youkai that much with his little 'tickle attack' earlier...but maybe he was in more trouble than he had previously thought.

"We need to talk." Hiei said and leapt down from the tree branch he had been standing on. Kurama had stiffened at those words and looked at Hiei with emotionless eyes, though inside he was in turmoil. Those were not words one wanted to hear after they had upset their partner.

"About what? I know you.." Kurama began but was interrupted by Hiei raising his hand to stop Kurama.

"It's not about that. This about us. I don't think we should...be together...anymore." Hiei said lowly, not meeting Kurama's eyes. He had thought about this for a while now, even before Yuusuke had professed his love to him. Certain events had just sort of happened and opened his eyes. He did care for the fox, he truly did...but he was sure now that it wasn't the love one felt for a lover. Hiei had lived a life different than a lot of youkai because of what he was and how he was raised.

"Wha..." Kurama murmured, at a loss for words. His eyes were wide with shock he knew, but somehow he couldn't find it in himself to slip his mask of indifference back on. Why? He thought things were going so well to...and why would Hiei ever see fit to let go of him? He was Youko Kurama! A powerful demon and renowned across the Makai not only for his stealth skills but his skills as a lover. Kurama's eyes narrowed, Hiei had been acting odd ever since Yuusuke had confessed his feelings for Hiei...

"Kurama. This has nothing to do with Yuusuke. I care for you, alright? This just doesn't feel right anymore..." Hiei said quietly. His face was blank, miraculously, he felt sad, angry, and confused and it was hard for him to keep it from showing.

"Hiei...I won't lie to you an say that I understand...but...if you need to talk, I'm still your friend." Kurama said thickly. He had to get away before he let his emotions get out of hand. He knew what he started trying to court Hiei that it could not last forever. He had just hoped that it would last longer than it had. Hiei would always be a close friend...and that would have to be enough.

"Thank you Kurama." Hiei said, his head bowed. He appreciated what Kurama said, it meant that in his own way, Kurama had forgiven him. Hiei left the clearing, leaving Kurama to himself to deal with the repercussions of their little talk.

As Hiei left Kurama found that he soundly agreed with his classmates.

Talking sucks.
