Days Gone By

Trudging through life

Day after day,

Left all alone

Unwilling to stay,

Met a friend

Who knew my mind,

Hoped to be with

For all of time,

Arrow through the heart

My trust was betrayed,

My life's nearly gone

My soul is frayed,

Trapped in time

Stuck on a tree,

Waiting for someone

To set me free,

A cry for help

I open my eyes,

I spy a girl

To my great surprise,

She looks so much

Like a ghost from my past,

But yet she's here

For a whole different task,

Destroyed the arrow

Shattered the jewel,

And takes it all

Without losing her cool,

Into the ground

I go on command,

Yet she bends down

To give me her hand,

Her big brown eyes

Filled with care,

And seem to love

The ears in my hair,

I don't understand

What this girl sees,

To stay right here

With half-human me,

I tried to be gruff

I tried to be mean,

And yet this girl

Refuses to leave,

In spite of myself

And in spite of my fear,

I want this girl

To always be near.
