We Would Not be Delayed

The stars were not shining,

And the moon was cold.

The sky was darkening,

And angry thunder rolled.

They were the Teleri.

We were the Noldor.

They lived by the Sea,

On the lonely shore.

We would take no lofty word,

For our pride was too great.

An oath then was stirred,

A sleeping beast of hate.

They were armed with only slender bows,

And grim determination.

We came as friends and left as foes.

Leaving behind devastation.

The Valar cursed us,

That we would fade,

And our kingdoms turn to dust.

Yet we would not be delayed.
