Joey woke up early on a Saturday morning.
"Hmmm..." he said to himself, "I want to go to the beach. Let's go!"
So he got up, got dressed, packed some beach stuff and wrote a note to stick on his door:
To Guys,
Gone to the beach for the day. Hope you can join me!
Joey
And he set off.
"Ah the beach!" Joey sighed as he stepped onto the sand. Laying down his beach towel, he smiled around at the empty beach around him. "It's great when it's so hot and sunny. I'm just going to go to sleep."
He shut his eyes and opened them again.
"What a refreshing nap, I think I'll dig a hole," he decided. He found a nice, pink, sparkly spade and pushed it into the soft sand. A few minutes later, he had a reasonably-sized round hole.
"Wow, isn't that a great hole?" he grinned. He stood and admired his handiwork, but he slipped on the wet sand, falling behind-first into his hole. And before he had a chance to climb out, it caved in around him.
"Ow, that sort of hurts..." he moaned, looking around for someone who could help him. But it was only 8am. Nobody came this early ...
It was two hours before Joey heard Monica and Chandler's voices. He was so happy he almsot fainted.
"You guys! Help me! I've been stuck here for ages!" he yelled.
"Joey, how did you get down there?" Monica asked.
"Long story, but one that involves falling over comically, so maybe I'll tell you later," Joey replied, "Now please get me out of here!"
Chandler grabbed a spade and began to dig frantically. Apart from the occasional 'ow' from Joey, there was soon a moat surrounding him.
"That's great! Now we'll have to pull you up," Monica said. She took hold of Joey's hands, Chandler got his ankles, and the lifted him up and out of the hole. Laying him down on the wet sand, they both secretly marvelled at how much weight he had put on.
Monica helped him up and gave him a hug.
"Are you alright?" she asked.
"Yeah, I think so. I'm just freezing cold," Joey replied, "Anyway, now you guys are here, can we go surfing?"
"OK," Chandler agreed, "I'm sure Monica will have brought me a surfboard."
"Bring your own, mister!"
Joey dug out his board.
"So - correct me if I'm wrong - but this is the only board we've got?"
Chandler and Monica glared at each other.
"Yeah."
"Hey, don't get all annoyed! That doesn't stop us all having fun! Listen, I've got a brilliant idea..." Joey whispered something to Monica.
"That's brilliant, Joey!"
They both smiled at Chandler ...
"Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!"
Joey caught a huge wave and glided smoothly to shore. He looked back, laughing, to see Monica surfing along on an even bigger wave. She rode it over to where Joey was standing.
"This is great, isn't it?"
"Yeah, just the three of us for once. Isn't that right, Chandler?"
Monica slid off Chandler's back just as his head shot out of the water. He breathed in the refreshing, salty air and stood up, shaking the water out of his eyes.
"Aha," he panted.
