Cloud and Yuffie interaction for Sabriel! I've always wanted to contribute more to this fandom than I have...

She never really thought much to make anything subtle or gentle or anything like that, since nothing of the sort had ever been filtered into her personality. Red XIII would stare on in slight irritation as she made gagging noises as they watched Tifa swoon over Cloud. Although sometimes she envied how someone could trust others enough to openly display their weakness, Yuffie knew she never could so she didn't bother trying. She was a thief and a backstabber. She knew trusting people would be a stupid idea.

She always knew Cloud was a loser. Maybe it was when he turned his back on her while at the same time accepting her into her company. You don't turn your back on a ninja, uwahaha! He obviously didn't know anything... and yet in the end, she found him displaying his weakness most of all. The person they had known had not been Cloud. Cloud had been trying to be someone else. The entire situation was a predicament that Yuffie shook her head at. She would never understand. Why be someone else while you could be yourself?

"Because I was weak," Cloud admitted to her when she got the chance to ask, while he enacted that shrug he had adopted from that guy. "I knew I was weak. If I tried to be Zack... I wouldn't be weak anymore. I could be strong - like him."

Yuffie would think things through sometimes and find she had a well of sympathy in herself that she was never able to show. She would just play on weakness with a "psshh", and a gesture, grinning and insulting. Offensive and sarcastic. The thought occured to her shortly that maybe everyone was like that. Maybe everyone had to layers to themselves, like when Tifa would reveal her weakness to Cloud, throwing down her strength and prioritizing trust. Cid, although he swore a lot and made a lot of noise, you knew he cared about everyone on the ship and that woman - Shera. Vincent, quiet and brooding in his guilt and 'sin' and all that stuff would occassionally close his eyes and smile, either at what was going on or maybe at some distant thought. Cloud had taken that in a more drastic way. He was picked apart until he no longer had some kind of outward protection, and he took Zack over him like a skin.

Now, the Cloud she looked at was pure and raw and... himself. Even his outward attitude was different. He had admitted to himself as well as to everyone that although strong physically, he was painfully mentally weak. He had thrown away his skin, and he came to Yuffie with trust.

"Of course!" Yuffie admitted loudly, her voice echoing through the open chamber of the Highwind. "If you're weak, that means I can beat you up and steal all of your materia!" Folding her arm to the small of her back, Yuffie threw her head back and laughed before being overcome with the familiar nausea of motion-sickness. "You better watch out Cloud - urk!"
