A piece of R/Hr fluff. One-shot.
Disclaimer: I don't own Harry Potter. The brilliant JK Rowling does.
Ron was wandering around the grounds. It was a beautiful day - students were walking around, laughing; the giant squid was basking in a sunlit spot of the lake, and one girl was reading in the shade of the beech tree.
It was Hermione.
Ron walked over to her and sank onto the grass beside her. She was too absorbed in Hogwarts: A History to notice him.
"Come on Hermione, you must have read that stupid book a million times," Ron sighed, exasperated.
Hermione looked at him.
"It's interesting," she sniffed.
Ron snorted.
"Yeah. Whatever you say."
Hermione positively glared.
"Are you ever going to read this or not?"
"Err - let me think - no."
"Well, how can you criticise me when you don't even know what I'm reading?"
"I dunno, I just feel like it I suppose."
Ron watched Hermione shake her head and return to her book. He felt like an idiot. Now how was he going to ask her what he needed to ask her?
'Come on, Ron, think! What would Harry do?' Ron thought to himself, 'He'd say ... nothing at all! Harry never asks people out, he just -'
Ron swallowed hard.
"Hermione?" he gently prompted.
And as soon as Hermione looked up, he leant forward and kissed her on the lips.
Hermione's hands fumbled with her book, slipping the dust cover into her place and slamming it down. Ron was sure she was going to kiss him back, hug him, tell him how much she loved him, so he slid his arms around her neck. But Hermione had other ideas -
She put her hands on Ron's shoulders and forced him off her.
"Ron!" she cried, "What are you doing?"
Ron was furious. He could have sworn she'd been kissing him back. Why did it always work for Harry?
"Well - erm - well - erm - err - you see, I - I -" he swallowed again, "I love you," he muttered quickly.
"You-?"
Ron nodded.
Hermione sat staring at him. Ron felt his insides shrivel up. He was so stupid...
"Oh, come here, you -"
Hermione grabbed Ron, pulled him close to her and kissed him again, and they stayed there for the whole afternoon, lying in the shade of the beech tree they'd loved for years...each with a person they'd loved for years. (And just not told anybody, that's all ;D)
A/N: What do you think? OK, I know the ending's not too good, but apart from that? Please R&R!
