CHAPTER TWO

James, Sirius and Remus rejoiced at the easiness of their escape. Slip out when no one was looking, and before you know it you're standing in a back yard, completely adult free.

"Freedom!" crowed James, hugging the nearest tree. "Get off, Remus." he said, shrugging off Remus' hand as he tried to tell James something.

"So, what should we do? I vote we find out what those Sam and Holly people are doing." Sirius announced. James let go of his tree, brushing bits of bark off his shirt as he thought about it.

"Yeah," he said finally, "I agree, but we sho- what Remus?" demanded James, turning on Remus, rubbing his poked shoulder.

"Finally. I was trying to tell you that they are right over there!" he hissed, pointing. James and Sirius looked over to where Remus was indicating

Slightly blocked by a huge mound of boxes, papers, broken chairs and old clothes were Holly and Sam, with two boys who could only be Matt and Seb.

They seemed to be arguing about something, and after much discussion, the brown haired boy trudged, disgruntled back towards the back door. As the Marauders were scrambling to hide behind a stack of logs, the boy that was still with the girls shouted over,

"Oh, Seb, don't forget the cream!" from what James could discern, the brown haired boy was Sebastian, and the blond haired one Matt.

After Seb had disappeared inside, the remaining three started arguing again. After a few minutes of arguing, Holly poked Matt, pointed in the direction of the log pile and said loudly, "Petrol!" Matt glared at her, but started walking over anyway.

"C'mon guys, let's hide in the boxes! That boy will see us here." James hissed. He grabbed their arms and they ducked behind a tree. Matt had walked over to the pile of logs and was now searching for something, muttering under his breath.

"Okay . . . now!" whispered Sirius. The Marauders dashed towards the mound of boxes and wood. With the girls on the other side, the Marauders were able to move some of the boxes so that they could see out, but no one could see in.

"I have a feeling we shouldn't be doing this." muttered Remus.

"Oh, come on, what could they do to a stack of boxes?" Sirius scoffed.

"I don't know. It's just . . ." Remus trailed off. He racked his brain for a reason for his sudden paranoia. The only thing he came up with was 'roasted marshmallows'. Deciding to share this enlightening information with his fellows, Remus declared, "Roasted marshmallows." James and Sirius stared at him. "That's the reason we shouldn't be in here." he elaborated. "Well, part of it, anyway."

"We shouldn't be in here because of roasted marshmallows?" Sirius said slowly. He shook his head. "And you call me crazy. I think you've los-"

"Shh! They're coming over here!" James cut in.

True enough, the girls had managed to drag over three huge tins of . . . something. They sat lined up in front of the bonfire.

"Bonfire!" gasped Remus. James shushed him, and stopped him from pounding on his shoulder.

"Guys!" Remus exclaimed "Guys, that's petrol!". Sirius shrugged.

" So?"

"Yeah, s- oh no." James blanched.

"Get out!" cried Remus, pushing his friends.

"No, I want to stay." Sirius argued, settling back on his haunches.

"Sirius. Bonfires. Are. For. Setting. Fire. To." Remus explained slowly.

"Ohhh." Sirius paused. "AAAAHHHHH! Get us out!"

Holly's head snapped up, and she began looking around her. Sam got on her knees and picked up a rock. She looked under it, then back at Holly. They shrugged, and Holly threw some petrol on the very top of the wood, then lit a match and threw it on top. The peak of the bonfire burst into flames.

''Get us out, get us out! I'm too handsome to die!'' yelled Sirius. The girls looked around themselves, confused.

''Under the bonfire, stupid!'' yelled Sirius. Sam started panicking and running around in circles while Holly immediately took offence.

''Who you calling stupid, Mr Under A Bonfire?' she demanded.

''We are stuck under a bonfire. Please stop arguing.'' said Remus, calm as ever. Unsurprisingly, no one listened.

''Yeah, well how we're we supposed to know you were going to set fire to it?'' Sirius argued.

''What did you think we were going to do with it, play duck-duck-goose around it? Moron?'' Holly shot back.

''We don't know what you do in your spar-''

''Shut up, Padfoot!'' James exclaimed, still working furiously to get free of the bonfire. Luckily, the flames were still at the top of the wood, and had not started at the bottom.

''Quick, quick! Get a hose! Get the fire-brigade! Get the police! Save my baby!'' Sam cried, running around in little circles. ''You know, '' she said to no one in particular. ''I have always wanted to say that.''

Seb emerged from the house holding a very large tray of ice-cream and whipped cream, only to see Matt still looking for something in the log pile, completely oblivious to the scene going on around him.

Sam was running around in circles, screaming something about her baby, Holly was having a conversation with a seemingly invisible person, and the bonfire was . . . talking? Well, screaming really. Something along the lines of, 'And who would burn a floral patterned shirt? Come on, have you no- Sirius, for the last time, shut up!'

Seb shook his head. Honestly, he was gone for one minute, and already Sam, Matt and Holly were burning people. Really. He sighed and marched over to the bonfire, from the bottom of which three boys were emerging.

Seb poured the contents of his tray over their heads, quickly putting out any sparks that might have grown into flames. As the bonfire quickly devoured the boys' old hiding spot, Matt looked up, brandishing a bottle of fuel.

"Found it! It took me - wow. You were . . . um . . . busy . . . " he trailed off, looking at the destruction his friends had caused.

There was a large patch of torn up and flattened grass from Sam's circles, a huge puddle of spilt ice-cream and a large smouldering log that had fallen off of the bonfire when the boys had escaped, creating a burnt area of grass.

Lily stared into the mirror, searching her green eyes. Freaky-Green-Eyes, her sister used to call her. Secretly, Lily agreed. Freaky green eyes.

"Lily! Lily, you're going top be late!" her mother called up. Lily shook her head, and glanced quickly at the mirror again. Wild red hair, slowly getting darker, sat innocently upon a pale complexioned face, with a dusting of freckles across the nose. Oh well, she thought bracingly. It's as good as it's going to get.

Grabbing her trunk and coat, Lily rushed down the stairs yelling, "Bye Dad! I'll miss you! Bye Petunia! I'll . . . um . . . bye!"

She was finally leaving the wrath of her big sister! Lily was leaving home for another home, Hogwarts. This year was different. She was prefect and Remus Lupin -Lily's secret crush - was the other prefect. But she didn't want to think about that now, now she was going to her friend Adie's house.

With her other friends, they would go to Diagon Alley. Then the next morning catch the 11 o'clock train to Hogwarts. A slow smile spread across Lily's face. This was going to be the best day of her entire summer. Not that that was saying much. Little did she know a rather arrogant pig headed jerk was going to ruin it all.

Thank you to all the people who reviewed, we really appreciate it.
