The Love of a Father
"Papa!" the voice of a child rose into the air of the house, squashing the silence that had reigned before. A man with medium length blonde hair and astonishing blue eyes turned around just as his daughter ran into his study. Her short blonde hair was in small pig tails, her blue eyes shining as she ran over to him.
"Papa, Brother took my doll!" the little girl cried as he picked her up. He gave her a gentle smile as he started out of the room with her still in his arms. As he descended the steps he managed to catch a small glimpse of his son and the doll.
"Chrono!" the boy in question paused as he started outside, the stolen doll dangling down from his hand. Shoulder length purple hair was pulled into a braid as the boy turned to stare at his father with big red eyes that managed to still be gentle looking despite their color.
"Give your sister back her doll and apologize," he stated with authority as he placed his daughter down on the floor. Chrono sighed as he walked over to her, holding out the rag doll.
"Gomen nasai, Rosette...here."
Rosette quickly took her doll back with a squeal of delight before she went off to play with it once again. Ewan Remington sighed as he watched his daughter go off in one direction and his son another. Apparently, the two siblings weren't getting along very well again. Chrono was just turning seven, his features quite different than those that someone would expect of a young boy.
Rosette, on the other hand, had just turned five. Their mother had died when Rosette was two and Chrono was a tender four. Both of the children had been raised by their father for the most part, an ex-Minister for the Order of Magedelene. Ewan had hated to lose her, but he had been helpless to save her. Chrono had inherited his mother's eyes and hair, while Rosette had her face. Laylah had been Ewan's first and only love, one that had come soon after the devastating blow of Joshua's death.
Laylah had never understood the names that Ewan had gifted upon his his children, but she had loved them all the same. Now, Chrono was a gentle child with a smile that would rival the sun in its brightness. Rosette was just the same, but with more humor than she could sometimes control. But he loved them both the same. They were his and he would raise them with all the love he could give. This was his tribute to the two friends he could not save...this was the part of his atonement that he would never want to give up. The love of a father for his children.
