My general introductory ramblings: I've been inspired by reading all of these stories so I've had a bit of a play and come up with this.

I don't know where it's likely to go... if anywhere but I hope it'll all be ok lol!

I don't own the Friends characters but I do own this my very first fanfic so please read and review and be gentle lol!

There had always been something there between Chandler and Monica.

In his eyes there had always been a spark, something that extra bit special!

They were close… but that closeness always went just beyond the boundaries of a 'normal' friendship.

He knew she didn't feel the same though… she couldn't… she didn't see him that way.

She saw Chandler as her brother's best friend… her best friend… but nothing more!

So he had to accept friendship.

Friends… he was fine with that… wasn't he?

Of course he was.

Only he wasn't.

If he could accept the fact that they were only friends why did his heart skip a beat when he saw her?

Why was she the only one who could make him smile a true smile?

A smile which lit up his whole face and made everyone else smile too!

Why was she the only one who he could openly share his feelings with?

Why was she the only one who could make all of his insecurities fade away?

With her he could be safe and not plagued by the niggling doubts that he wasn't good enough!

He wasn't though… not for Monica… she was truly special… someone who deserved only the best… something which he wasn't.

That's why they were only friends… he could make her laugh… make her smile… pick her up when she fell down… play the fool… but

he couldn't get her to love him like he loved her.

They clicked, they shared everything and always turned to each other but it wasn't enough…

Just friends…

Never were those words so cruel.

Knowing he couldn't have her but knowing he couldn't live without her.

Having to watch and stand by as she gave her entire being to men who used and abused her.

Having to keep his feelings hidden because he couldn't ever let her see.

Knowing he was a fool to even have these feelings.

Yet despite telling himself that it would never happen and that he should move on he was always drawn to that notion… the spark, the

connection, the affection that they shared.

And who knew when those sparks would ignite and start a fire…?
