Spot's P.O.V

I finally made it back to the Brooklyn Lodging House in less than ten minutes. My mind was spinning, and I didn't know what I was doing. I must've looked frightened or worried, because the minute I walked into the Lodging House everyone began to ask what was wrong. I took a few deep breaths to try and calm down.

"It's Sage…" I said.

"Yeah, we know, she's leavin," Splinter said. I shook my head, which was a bad idea because I got quite dizzy. Skip crossed his arms over his chest and waited for me to continue.

"No," I said. "She's…been kidnapped." Everyone looked at me oddly.

"C'mon Spot, don't kid like dat," Dice said. I growled in aggravation.

"I'm not kidding!" I yelled. "Sage's fadder kidnapped 'er!"

"But she told me she was leavin ta live with 'em," Splinter said.

"Youse don't understand what I'm sayin. When I went ta tell 'er not ta leave someone grabbed 'er and pulled 'er into da carriage and den dey left and Sage kept screamin for me ta help 'er," I said in one breath. Everybody once again gave me odd looks.

"What Spot is tryin ta say is dat we's gotta save 'er," Skip said. I nodded.

"Yeah, what he said," I said.

"But we don't know where she's at," Lucky said.

"I think I do," I told everyone. "I think I know who's behind dis." Everyone seemed to agree. I took a deep breath and leaned against the wall.

"Listen," I said. "We's gotta go back ta Manhattan…" I trailed off. I knew where Sage was; the warehouse, I believe, but the warehouse was in Brooklyn and if we walked back to Manhattan then we were just wasting time.

"Speed," I said. A boy about Sage's age popped up in front of me.

"Yeah, Spot?" Speed asked.

"I need youse ta run ta Manhattan and tell Jack dat he's gotta meet us here. Tell 'em Sage is in Brooklyn." Speed nodded and sped out the door. No wonder we call him Speed.

"So, what do we's need, Spot?" Tick asked.

"Weapons," I said. "Get yer slingshots, anythin." There was a soft knock on the door. I turned around and swung it open.

"Hey, Spot," Madison said as she walked into the Lodging House. "Can we talk?" she asked.

"Not now, Madison," I told her. "I gotta save Sage." Madison flinched.

"Sage? I thought you weren't friends with her anymore," Madison said, crossing her arms over her chest and pursing her lips. I rolled my eyes and quickly walked up the stairs and Madison followed.

"I made a mistake," I told her. "Sage has been kidnapped so we's gotta save 'er."

"Why?"

"Because I need 'er here," I said.

"You don't need her, Spot. You have me," Madison said. I looked around the room for my slingshot. Damn it! Where did I leave it last? I got on my knees and looked under my bunk.

"Youse don't understand," I said, getting to my feet and looking on the top bunk.

"Spot, that girl does nothing but cause you trouble. I mean, she doesn't respect you. She fights back."

"Her fighting back with me is respect," I said. "She ain't afraid ta tell me what she thinks, and I like dat about 'er!"

"Listen, Spot, you wanted her gone and now she's gone. We have our privacy now," Madison said. She walked up to me seductively and wrapped her arms around my neck. "So, let's have our privacy," she whispered in my ear. She brought her lips to mine and kissed me. I pulled away and stared down at her.

"No," I said.

"No?" she repeated.

"No." I then walked past her and opened the closet door.

"Spot Conlon, I demand you to stop what you are doing and be with me!" Madison yelled. I turned around and glared at her. She backed away in fear.

"What, youse think I'm gonna hoit ya? Youse see, dat's how Sage is different from youse; she knows I would never hoit 'er!" Madison flinched.

"Stop it, Spot," she said. "I don't want you to save her. She doesn't need you, and you don't need her!"

"Shut up!" I said. "Youse don't know one thing 'bout me, Madison!" Madison looked at me in disbelief.

"Spot, I know everything about you."

"Oh yeah?" I said. "I bet youse didn't know dat I don't want youse around anymore!" I yelled.

"What?" Madison asked. "Spot, look at what this girl has done to you! She has you against me!"

"No, youse had me against her! I can't believe I let youse back in my life!"

"I made your life perfect!"

"Youse ruined my life! I thought I'd always be broken up inside until Sage came along!" Madison shook her head.

"Spot, look at us, we're fighting."

"No, I'm fightin; youse is jus' backin away in fear." I then walked past her and into the washroom. My slingshot was sitting on the sink, untouched.

"Spot Conlon, if you leave to save that girl then we're through!"

"Oh yeah? Well, I guess dat dis is goodbye den. Goodbye Madison." I then walked out of the room, my cane in my belt loop, and my slingshot tucked in my pocket. I pulled my hat on and walked downstairs.

"Come back here and beg my forgiveness!" Madison called out.

"How 'bout I beg youse ta leave?" I said. I opened the front door and pointed out. "Get lost Madison." Madison walked down the steps and stood in front of me.

"Why are you doing this?" she asked. "Why can't you just reason with me?"

"Because Sage needs me."

"I need you more."

"No, youse jus' need a brain." Madison crossed her arms over her chest.

"You'll regret this, Spot Conlon. You just wait; you'll find out how much you need me!" And with that said Madison stormed out of the Lodging House.

"I knew youse had a brain in there somewhere," Spark said from behind me. I closed the door and looked at him.

"Yeah, well, she wasn't my type," I said. Spark laughed as the both of us walked into the main room. Just then the front door opened and Speed walked in with Jack at his side.

"Where are yer newsies?" I asked.

"Dey is outside. Got a plan?" I smirked as Spark and I glanced at each other.

Normal P.O.V

I kicked at the wall furiously, hoping that by magic it would fall down. Nope, still standing.

"Damn it!" I cursed. I then turned to the barred window and pulled at the bars.

"Stupid bars," I muttered. The moon shone brightly through my window. Well, I guess once I die I can be with mother and Sam. Spot's face then popped up in my head.

"Stupid Spot," I said out loud. "Why do you have to be so damn annoying? If it weren't for you then I'd commit suicide down here!" I said to nobody in particular. I then stepped back and stared up at the ceiling. Why was it so quiet? I then gave up trying to find a way out.

I sat on the ground and stared at the door. How was I going to get out of this? The only thing – I mean person – worth living for is mad at me, and I'm pretty sure he won't come. This was the one time that I really wished Spot was here to save me.

I pushed some hair out of my face and rubbed away some tears. Whether or not I liked it, somebody was going to die, and that somebody was me.

I sat there for hours, just thinking of nothing. Well, unless you want to call Spot Conlon nothing. I smiled to myself. We first met here…in this small cell. It wasn't exactly the most romantic way to meet, but hey, he saved my life. The last time that I ever saw him was back at the Brooklyn Lodging House, and the last few words we said to each other were rude remarks. And now, just sitting here knowing that I was going to die, I would take it all back and just tell him how I feel. I didn't even get to say goodbye.

I wondered what he wanted when he ran up to me. He looked different; as if he had something important to say.

I then heard screaming coming from above me, and glass being broken.

"What the," I said. I stood to my feet and stared at the ceiling. I bit my lip as I heard gun shots, and more screaming, and then more gun shots, and less screaming.

"Great, now they've all went completely psycho," I said out loud.

"Yeah, well, when youse got a bunch of kids ruinin yer night den I guess it can make ya crazy," came a voice. I twirled around and stared wide eyed at the boy behind the door.

"What are you doing here?" I asked. Spot stuck the key in the lock and twisted it.

"Shouldn't I ask youse da same thing?"

"I'm a prisoner," I said, recalling the last time the two of us were in here together. Spot then pulled the door open and smiled at me. I gave him a confused look. "How did you know I was here?"

"Instinct, and if we don't hurry den we's is dead," he said. There were more gun shots which made me jump. I then decided that it was a good idea to leave. I nodded my head as Spot put the key back around his neck.

"See, dis thing came in handy," he said, referring to the key around his neck. I rolled my eyes as I followed him down the long, dark hallway. He then stopped and I ran into him.

"Shh," he said, taking my hand in his. I didn't know why he wanted me to be quiet because everyone else was screaming. He then climbed up the stairs and lifted the trap door. I was wondering how he got by my uncle's men, but when we reached the top I didn't need to wonder anymore. The sight before me was unbelievable.

There were newsies everywhere, fighting with my uncle's men. I didn't see any dead newsies, which was a good thing. Once the newsies noticed me, they began to run for the door.

"C'mon, we's gotta go," Spot said. I didn't say anything as we ran for the door.

"Why are we leaving? They'll just follow us!" I yelled.

"'Cause if we bring da fight out on da streets den da bulls will hear it and come. But in here dey won't know." I nodded my head, wondering why they didn't just get the policemen to come get me themselves. I guess newsies have much more pride than that.

Spot and I made it for the door and ran out into the cold night. I was still holding on tightly to his hand as we ran for the streets. There were newsies everywhere, and they weren't just Brooklyn. All of these people came here to save me?

I heard the men following us, running right into the newsies trap.

Everybody then came to a stop as we stood in the streets of Brooklyn. The lamps supported little light as my uncle's men caught up. In no time, a huge fight broke out. I felt my heart get caught in my throat as I recognized this street.

The dream…

Next Chapter: Sage remembers seeing the fight scene in her dreams, and tries her best to prevent it from happening. She can't let Spot die, she just can't!
