ENJOY THE SILENCE

Theme: # 29 – the sound of waves

He waited for her at the school gates. Standing there reminded him of the time when he had attended Mishima High and he smiled somewhat, his long black bangs slightly shifting in the summerly breeze. He had his hands dug into the pockets of his leather jacket and his entire outfit made him look like a B-league street punk – a noticable difference to his neat school uniform he used to wear for years. Some of the girls still remembered him and came over to talk to him but he just gave them short answers until they decided to leave him alone again. He still wasn't a very talkative person – not that he had been ever, mind you. But beeing just someone outside the schoolyard made him feel lighthearted and amused. Not to be Heihachi Mishima's grandson, a High School V.I.P. but just a person made him feel more anonymous and safe. Crazy world. He knew he still was as conspicuous as a firework in a dark night but the mere possibility to turn around and walk away made him feel more comfortable though he knew he wouldn't do as long as Miharu wasn't by his side. But his girl did take her time and made him wait. He didn't complain, very often it wasn't her fault but Xiaoyu's who kept his girl from going home. Little Xiaoyu who still had a major crush on him and blushed violently whenever she saw him. He had to admit, this girl was some kind of cute but too childish, this giggling sorts of childish. He knew that it was him who made Xiaoyu giggle like crazy, she just couldn't help it.
He was shaken out of his thoughts as Miharu emerged from the rather dark stairways and crossed the vast place. She looked so determined in her school uniform and he smiled again, something he had had to learn again after those years with Heihachi. Miharu had taught him to smile again, love again. Live again. He was forever thankful he had come to know her better after their really bad start in the Junior years. She was the best he could ever get, that was for sure. He walked up to her as she passed the big gates and took her books.
"Hey." he said and they walked down to the parking lots. She had him forbidden to kiss her as long as the school was still in sight because some of the other girls had teased her and she wasn't keen on discussing the issue again and again. Her dating with Hehiachi's grandson was already enough gossip for the whole school, fortunately the brabbling mass didn't know they lived together in a small house near the shore, only her and Jin.
Jin's new motorcycle neatly stood in the parking lot, two helmets on the seat, one black, one deep red. It took them twenty minutes to the freeway and another twenty to the shore where they lived.
When Jin entered the house, Miharu still stood outside, looking over her shoulder down to the beach. The sun was going down slowly, tainting the area in a warm shade of rose and orange, a slight breeze was blowing, making her hair tickled her cheek causing her to brush it aside. "Jin, you excuse, I'll go down to the beach." she called and left her books and shoes at the front door. She just couldn't resist this deep yearning to walk on the warm sand, feel it trickle among her toes and watch the sundown. She could hear the breakers on the beach, the sound of the waves at the moment they reached the nearby stony shore, the burbling sound when the water took its way back to the ocean. It was one of the moments she felt filled with calmness and inner strenght, almost complete. Feeling the salty breeze in her face made her feel free and just like flying. Easy going. She closed her eyes and enjoyed the last warm rays of dimming sunlight when she heard footsteps behind her, almost silent, anxious not to destroy the calm mood she was in. Jin. She smiled and looked over her shoulder.
He didn't say a word, just wrapped his arms around her shoulders, pulling her close. "It's simply beautiful." he said gently. She said nothing but nodded slowly.
And in front of them, far away at the horizon, the sun finally dove into an ocean of deep red crystal glass.
