Phase-2: Space (Romance)
Stars.
They were the first thing I saw when I let my eyes open after who knows how long. I was floating somewhere in space - alone, but alive. My suit was intact. It was either a miracle or a sick coincidence.
It's over, I thought to myself. It's finally over.
I couldn't help but cry a little at that moment. Partially they were tears of relief, tears of happiness that the war was over. And yet they were also tears of selfish grief. I'd failed to protect Fllay. And now I was floating motionless in the vastness of outer space with little hope of anyone ever finding me. I was going to die.
I closed my eyes in resignation.
But I suddenly felt something small, hard and cold brush against my cheek. I opened my eyes again, and shining in a glint of starlight was a silver ring. It was floating idly on a chain amongst the teardrops I'd shed. And as I fixed my eyes on it, I felt I was slowly regaining my hope.
Lacus.
"Please come back," she'd said to me with tears welling in her eyes. "Come back to me."
I remember how her voice wavered like it almost never did. It was only the second time I had ever seen her cry.
I saw an image of her in my mind then. She was hovering with her hands pressed against a window on Eternal, staring into deep space. Her calm demeanor was gone. Tears stained her cheeks and she was losing hope every second she went without seeing or hearing from me.
I knew she was there, waiting for me. Her heart was probably breaking.
She was in love with me.
I suddenly felt an overwhelming will to live. And it was for her sake.
Moments later, I saw a suit in the distance. It was Athrun and Cagalli.
I smiled and cried a few more tears of happiness then. I was found. I closed my eyes and waited for them to arrive.
I'm coming back to you, Lacus.
