: Hey! I know, can you believe it? It's been FOR-EV-ER since I've been here! I know, I can't believe it either but hey? What can you do about school and getting lazy? Well, it's been a while, and I was thinking about all the silly things my cat does when I eat ice cream so I dedicate this story to my cute cute neko-chan Rin! More updates coming soon now:

It was a hot, sticky summer. There was no breeze to move the trees and very few clouds in the sky. Mrs. Higurashi was preparing cold soba for Grandpa, and Kagome, on one of her rare returns, had taken Sota out for popsicles, with the silly dog man following behind.

It was not a good time to be a cat – certainly not for Buyo. He was hot and itchy and there wasn't any air conditioner to sit next to because the only one in the whole shrine had broken. Bathing didn't help – it only gave him sticky hairballs, made even more fluffy by the humidity. The flowers smelled good and strong, which meant that there would be a lot of insects flying around at night, but the sun was too bright and too hot for them just now.

Normally, Buyo would have just taken a nap and waited for the cooler evening moon to wander by, but it was too humid even for sleep today.

"Meow…"

Buyo stretched his legs and slowly wandered to the only shade he could reach without having to walk out into the sun. Normally, if there had been a breeze, he would have walked towards the big tree that the people who lived in his house called 'Goshinboku,' but there wasn't any. Buyo instead settled for the wall near the front gates of the shrine. There was some soft grass and maybe he could see when Sota came back – at least he might give Buyo some of his popsicle.

As the sun continued to move across the sky in an attempt to chase the cat out into the heat, Buyo followed the outside of the shrine wall to a nearby park just down the sidewalk. At last, there were trees! Trees by the wall, trees not by the wall – trees that had long shady branches thick with big green leaves – and all there, valiantly defending shade-seekers from that persistent sun! There was even a nice, cool, shallow pond between two large trees near a sidewalk.

Buyo sauntered lazily over to the pool of water, flipping his tail now and again as he retreated from his burning pursuer. He lapped at the pond a bit, stretched out his back and front legs, laid on his stomach and promptly began to snooze. There weren't really any children coming around to pet him, but that was alright – and certainly no dog-men there to tug his ears.

"Meeeyoooww…."

Some time later, Buyo heard children calling from the other side of the pond. He pricked his ears and sniffed delicately.

"Meow…?"

Amidst all the jumping loud children there was a familiar smell… something sweet. It reminded him of the cold, creamy stuff that Mrs. Higurashi brought home with food.

Buyo jumped down from the stone edge of the pond and, curious, snaked through the stubby legs of all the small people.

"One choco-banana ice cream, please!"

"Here 'ya go, sweetie!"

"Ms. Lady! Two strawberry ice creams, please!"

"Sure! Just a sec…"

Buyo followed the scent past the children's legs and through the big white curtain on the side of the stand. Behind the curtain there was a short counter with several lidded barrels in a tub of ice. Next to them was a pile of pointy sweet-smelling objects that the Big Lady was lumping the cold stuff onto before handing them over the stand to the small children.

Buyo wanted that sweet cold stuff. But how to get it from the Big Lady? He hid behind the side of the counter, next to a tall trashcan as she turned around to get more of the sweet stuff. Buyo had to time his jump just right…

"Hello Ma'am, I'd like one two vanilla ice creams and one strawberry, please."

"Meow?"

Was that Kagome? That sounded like her – but more importantly, this could be Buyo's chance! When the Big Lady got ready to turn and give Kagome the sweet stuff, Buyo would have his chance to jump up and taste it!

As she scooped the sweet, creamy-looking stuff onto the 'points,' Buyo readied himself. The moment she turned, he pushed off the ground and sprang up onto the table, knocking over the trashcan.

"Rouwww!"

The counter was shiny and slick, as Buyo slid right off and landed quite on the other side of the counter. The Big Lady turned around and saw the cat sprawled on the ground.

"Eeeeh? Neko-chan?"

She wiped her hands off and picked Buyo up by the scruff, looking him sternly in the eyes.

"Were you trying to get my ice cream…?"

"Meow."

"You know, neko-chan, all you had to do was ask."

"…?"

"Haha! Well here 'ya go, I've got some extra vanilla – I'll give it to you. But next time you want it, just ASK."

"Meow!"

The Big Lady wiped out a small dish, scooped some white, sweet stuff onto it, and placed it on the ground for Buyo. As he walked home the sun began to drop in the sky and a light breeze picked up. It was a good time to be a cat.
