Disclaimer: I don't own anything from the Lion King, although you probably guessed that already.
Ok, so this is what I think will be going on through all of the percussionist head when we are playing a song for our Salute to Broadway concert. It's in 12/8, and hardly any of us have counted that before. After Lion King's Can You Feel The Love Tonight.
Can You Feel The Beat Right NowLuke: I can see what's happening.
James: What?
Luke: And they don't have a clue.
James: Who?
Luke: They'll get off beat and here's the bottom line
Our percussion line is doomed.
James: Oh.
Luke: The trumpet's playing too loud
The director's too hard to see
And with all this confusing atmosphere disaster's in the air.
All: Can you feel the beat right now
We don't understand his cues
The winds, for once, in perfect harmony
And now we are off beat
Eric: So many notes to play here
But I don't get the beat
Turn around and ask; impossible
Kirkland would kill me
Me: I know the notes I promise
But I don't get 12/8
Why won't he practice this stuff with us
Before we get on stage
All: Can you feel the beat right now
We don't understand his cues
The winds, for once, in perfect harmony
And now we are off beat
Can you feel the beat right now
Listen to the winds
We still can't tell, we're dead after this
Percussion really sucks
Luke: And if they get off beat tonight
It can be assumed
James: Their every days in band are history
Both: In short percussion's doomed
