Kagome's Valentine
Kagome spent her days in the sengoku jidai. Valentine's Day wasn't any different.
In years past, Kagome Higurashi would have made a big deal about Valentine's Day. She would have gone out of her way to save money in order to buy her friends chocolates and cards. She'd make sure to put the day aside for friends and put aside the night to baby-sit Souta while her mother and father went out on a romantic evening. Kagome used to care about Valentine's Day.
But then she fell down the well.
Suddenly, trivial things like pink hearts and truffles didn't seem to matter that much any more. For Kagome Higurashi, she had bigger things to care about.
Her friends now didn't know what Valentine's Day was. They wouldn't have cared, anyway. The important thing was staying alive and finding Naraku. They didn't have the time for frilly hearts and chocolate covered strawberries her feudal era friends wouldn't understand.
Kagome and her friends struggled to stay alive. They fought and fought, sometimes amongst themselves (which was quickly disquieted by a rather large SIT command). They would travel and laugh together, they would enjoy one another's company, they would keep one another safe, and they would love each other the way only their group knew how.
Once upon a time Kagome needed to buy chocolates and valentines to show her friends that she loved them.
Valentine's Day didn't matter to Kagome anymore.
Author's notes: Just a short fic. Too big to be a drabble, though. This is just my opinion on the overly sappy Valentine's stories out there about Kagome and Inuyasha making a big deal over it when in reality they have larger things to worry about. And yeah, I am guilty or writing those kinds of stories, too.
