Don't hurt me! I was super bored, and we had a small discussion in History class about Gone With the Wind, and I remembered reading the book, and I was thinking about Inuyasha, and... Well... This is what happened because of it. The characters are WAY OOC, and I know this would NEVER happen! Kagome's not so prissy like that, Inuyasha would NEVER cry, and Kouga wouldn't pass up an opportunity like that! I just had to... tweak their characters a little to match Scarlet O'Hara, Ashley Wilkes, and Rhett Butler from Gone With the Wind. Ah, and, needless to say, this story spoils the ending to Gone With the Wind (by Margaret Mitchel), so if you plan on reading that great book, you might not want to read this...
Maybe I should stop rambling and get on with the story...
Gone in the Bend
Kagome looked at Inuyasha with sudden disgust. Here was the guy she'd been striving to take from Kikyou since she first laid eyes on him. Here was the guy who thought her nothing more than a friend. Here was the guy who she always thought was strong and brave. It was only now that she saw how truly hopeless he was without his beloved Kikyou.
Tears stained his face as he mourned her death. He and the others had killed Naraku, but Kikyou had been there and in Naraku's last few moments of life, he'd killed her.
Kagome turned away from Inuyasha. The one she thought she loved was far too pathetic. As she hurriedly walked through the woods away from him, she realized something rather strange.
Her footsteps sped up. Inuyasha was completely out of sight now, and the woods closed in around her. With her breathing coming in strangled gasps, she realized in terror that the entire scene around her was exactly like a dream that continuously haunted her sleep.
In her dream, she ran through the woods. Fear choked her. It was as if something unknown was chasing her, biting at her ankles. Frantically she ran towards something. Her mind was foggy, though, and she was unsure of exactly what it was that she was searching for. Was she searching for a safe-haven of sorts? A savior, perhaps?
Now she knew. Excitement lit into her eyes. She knew exactly what -- or, rather, who -- she was searching for. She ran faster and faster, and soon a cave loomed in sight.
"Kouga!" she cried, rushing into the wolf's den.
Kouga looked at her. "What do you want?" he growled.
Kagome stopped in front of him, panting partly from exhaustion and partly from exuberance. "I finally realized," she said excitedly, "that I don't love Inuyasha; I love you!"
Kouga crossed his arms. "Well, guess what," he answered. "It's too late!"
"W-What?" Kagome's confusion showed plainly on her face.
"It's too late," he repeated stonily. "All this time, you've been obsessed with a guy who didn't even care for you, just as I have been obsessed with a woman who thought she didn't care for me. For months now I've been trying to get you to see what's been right in front of you, but you were too busy chasing after Inuyasha. Well, I've had enough. I'm leaving this place, and I'm leaving you."
Kagome choked back her tears. "B-But I love you!" she whimpered. "I need you, Kouga!"
"Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn." He ran from the cave, and Kagome never saw him again.
