Prompt (019) Him for livejournal community slash100
Jack, Daniel, Jonas
The earth turns, the sun burns, but I die, without you.
"Without You", by Jonathan Larson, sung by Rosario Dawson
Jack stared at the blinking cursor, the light from the computer monitor bathing his face electric blue. Hammond said he had till Monday to turn in his mission report, but he just wanted to get it done. After all, nothing really spectacular about this mission. A scorcher of a sun and some old rocks Jonas looked at mournfully when they left.
Jack frowned as he thought of what Daniel would have done. He could see it in his mind's eye: Daniel reverently running his hands over the ruins, tracing faded writing lightly, muttering to himself, completely focused on the present puzzle the writings provided. Later, seated at the foot of one of the walls, carefully copying the symbols into his journal even though he'd already taped the place, a frown between his eyebrows as he tried to decipher the language, lips moving soundlessly with his thoughts. Then that night while they were gathered around the fire, explaining his theories, voice rising and falling with his passion etched onto his features. The look he'd give Jack when he announced it was time to go home, a glare somewhere between pleading to stay and reproachful of Jack's lack of enthusiasm, his words echoing the sentiments his eyes were projecting.
Nothing like Jonas' wistful silence.
Jack refocused on his report somewhat regretfully. The cursor continued blinking, unchanged. He rubbed his eyes tiredly; it seemed like he was always tired these days. He had to finish the report. The world kept turning, even though Daniel's enthusiasm had been replaced by Jonas' obedience. Life went on, even if for Jack it felt like it was going backwards.
