In One Moment

His eyes looked into mine. I could feel the intensity of his gray eyes boring into my own amethyst ones. The fragrant smell of the roses he had given me lingered in the air. He put his hands around my shoulders and drew me close to him. His navy blue hair was in its usual setting. My own red hair was in soft curls and hung loosely down my back, the blondish brown highlights glinting in the moonlight. My baby blue skirt swayed gently in the warm, gentle breeze. I could hear a nightingale singing in a silvery voice some distance off. His hands found mine and held onto them. I noticed that they were damp from cold sweat. I smiled up at him as he took a deep, shuddering breath. I could tell he was nervous. He gave me a hug and then let me go to pull a piece of paper out of his pocket. I looked at it, curiosity burning at my insides. He began to read to me, what he had written.

Her brown eyes are so soft.

I look into them and know I am safe

Her laughter is like chimes in the wind.

Her voice is sweet and melodic,

Like a pianist in his finest moment

Her hair blows in the wind,

The dark brown catching in the sunlight

She moves with grace and poise.

Her balance is perfect.

She sings like a nightingale,

Beautiful in every way you can imagine.

My heart sank as he kept reading; it seemed as if he were describing someone else. I looked down trying not to let the tears slip from my eyes.

Her smile is like The Mona Lisa

Shy and innocent, yet mischievous

My heart melts when our eyes meet.

I can hear her voice in my head,

Like the sound of running water.

I smile in remembrance.

He finished reading, and then looked back up at me. I looked away, trying not to show my disappointment: Here was my longtime friend, and whom I thought to be the one I loved, telling me about a different girl. I could taste the salty tear that had escaped my eye. A hand touched my shoulder, causing me to look him in the face. He smiled down at me and in one moment, he whispered, "I love you."
