This story is done just by captain cheese.

Its just a one shot, or what ever you call them about what happened to Joren during his Ordeal of Knighthood. I got this idea for this story from madeleine2 so make sure you check out her one.

Disclaimer: Tamora Pierce is the genius, not me.

Joren cautiously entered the chamber for his ordeal of Knight Hood. It was a small room, dark and cold.

"Nothing to be afraid of," he thought, shivering.

He decided to examine the walls closer. They were plain stone walls, like any other one might find in the castle. Gently he reached out and touched one.

It flashed a brilliant light, temporarily blinding him. His site returning he found a bed before him. In it lay a woman, pale and quite still. She was most obviously dead.

Joren made cry out, almost forgetting himself. The woman was his mother.

He backed away quickly. "Joren!" A voice thundered.

Joren turned to see a man nearing him, fist raised ready to strike. His father punched and beat him, shouting that Joren was failing him. Joren did not work hard enough. Joren cowered in a corner. The beatings stopped.

He stood up, sporting a broken nose and multiple bruises. He felt the need to punch something himself. There was Kel.

"Perfect," he thought evilly.

They were in a richly furnished room. To one end were two thrones. Seated upon them were King Jon and Queen Thayet. Courtiers, knights and mages where lined along the walls, seemingly to be waiting for something.

"Come forth," the King ordered.

Joren and Kel kneeled before him.

"Joren of Stone Mountain hath challenged Keladry of Mindelin to a dual to the death!" the king said. "Do they both promise to honour the Code of Chivalry?"

Joren almost said "I do" in union with Kel before remembering not to speak.

They stood and faced each other, setting their swords in guard position.

Kel attacked, bringing her sword around in an arch near his side. Joren managed to block it just in time. She attacked again and again, tirelessly. No matter what Joren tried, he could not get the upper hand. Kel was too fast, too strong and seemed to anticipate his every move.

"I am going to die!" Joren thought. "I am going to be killed by the stump, by a girl. That wench!"

The chamber flashed. He was back in the room with stone walls and no doors or windows.

"Joren of Stone Mountain, you have not treated Keladry fair. She possesses the qualities a knight of this realm requires. She is hard working, disciplined, honourable and fair. You are not. You have constantly harassed her since her coming here. You have bullied her, hurt her and done your best to make her fail. For this you will be punished. For this I will turn you into a girl.

Joren burst into tears, sobs racking his entire body. "I would rather die!" he screeched, voice echoing around the room.

Silence

"So be it."

There you go, poor Joren. Tell me what you think.
