They haven't had the chance to talk in quite a while…not that they ever really talked in the first place. He finds it sad that it took the shooting and subsequent death of one of their own to reunite them as partners, but at the same time, he's relieved that it has done so. He has something to get off of his shoulders. But he isn't sure he wants to let it go.

They stand on a rooftop, watching the life of the city pass them by, exchanging comments now and then. He shifts, nervously, silently arguing with himself as his companion makes a remark about taking his wife and children out later on. He closes his eyes for a fleeting second, and in that second makes up his mind.

He turns, almost hesitantly, and his companion falls silent, eyeing him warily. Moments of silence like these between the two of them have never really added up to anything good. He closes his eyes again and sighs, opening them again before he begins to speak. And as he does, it feels as if a weight is being lifted off of him, a weight that he didn't think he'd ever be able to get rid of.

After he's finished, he asks his former partner to turn him in. But he refuses. He stares at him for a long moment, stunned, before remarking that he's thought about eating his gun. And then it is his partner's turn to stare. He tells him then that he'd be saving him from himself if he just turned him in, but no answer comes, at least not at first.

And then his partner says that he believes he didn't mean to do the killing. He tells him then that he can believe what he wants; his partner calls him a son of a bitch, upset, and he hesitates for a minute before asking to be absolved. His partner says no, that he can't. And he argues back, saying that it's not that he can't, it's that he won't.

Silence falls again between the two of them. He takes his silver shield out of his pocket and hands it to him, saying nothing. His companion looks at it for a while before pocketing it himself and saying quietly that he and his wife should just stay at home that night and have dinner with their children.

They turn, at this point, and head back inside, both of their lives now completely changed, because of this…because of a simple confession.
