I'm Moving On
Disclaimer: I do not own Degrassi, nor do I own the song "I'm Moving On" by Rascal Flatts.
I've dealt with my ghosts
And I've faced all my demons
Finally content with the past I regret
I've found you find strength
In your moments of weakness
For once I'm at peace with myself
I've been burdened with blame
Trapped in the past for too long
I'm moving on
Graduation day had come and gone, and everyone was enjoying their summer. Well, everyone except for one person. Ellie Nash sat at home thinking about everything. She was getting ready to leave for college. And she made sure she went somewhere far away from Degrassi and all of its memories. She wanted to go somewhere where she could grow and be herself. She wanted to go somewhere that didn't have all the memories so that she could start over. But most of all, she wanted to go somewhere where people didn't know her. Somewhere where she could be another nameless face in the crowd.
I've lived in this
place
And I know all the faces
Each one is different
But they're always the same
They mean me no harm
But it's time that I faced it
They'll never allow me to change
But I never dreamed
home would end up
Where I don't belong
I'm moving on
If she stayed in Degrassi, she would always be known as Ellie Nash: cutter, Sean Cameron's ex, the reason why Jimmy and Hazel broke up. These were things that she didn't want to be remembered as. She wanted people to see her for who she really was. Not who she used to be. She wasn't the punk rock princess who couldn't handle her problems anymore. She had grown up and matured into a young woman. A young woman who could handle herself and whatever life threw at her. At least, that's what she liked to tell herself.
The bottom line was that she needed to get out of Degrassi, and she needed to get out now, before all of the memories of who she used to be choked her to death.
I'm moving on
At last I can see
Life has been patiently waiting for me
And I know there's no guarantees
But I'm not alone
There comes a time
In everyone's life
When all you can see
Are the years passing by
And I've made up my mind that
Those days are gone
She knew that once she left and headed off to college, things would get better for her. She could finally leave everything behind her. There would no longer be anything holding her back. The memories and the people would be forgotten, and she would truly be able to start over.
I sold what I
could
And packed what I couldn't
Stopped to fill up on my way out of town
I've loved like I should
But lived like I shouldn't
I had to lose everything to find out
Maybe forgiveness will find me somewhere down this road
I'm moving on
Ellie left her house and walked to Degrassi Community School. The place where she spent the last five years of her life. She sat on the steps one last time and let herself think about everything that had happened there. She let herself think about everything that she was leaving behind. All of the memories she had here would soon be gone. And so would the people who had played such a big role in her life up to that point. She was leaving that night for a college out in California, far away from anything that had to do with Degrassi. She knew that there would always be a place in her heart for Degrassi. But, this was her one chance to be her. And she knew that, no matter what, she had to take it, because it would never come around again. And at that moment, she needed that. She needed to move on and begin to figure out who she really was.
I'm moving on
I'm moving on
