Disclaimer: The song "Pet" belongs to A Perfect Circle. Erik, Christine, and Raoul belong to Gaston Leroux and Andrew Lloyd Webber. I am making no money off this songfic
A/N: I received a very good review, asking about the inconsistencies of the story, for example; why is Christine in the dorm if she's with Raoul? So I fixed it, and here is the revised version.
Pet
Don't fret precious
I'm here
Step away from the window
Go back to sleep
The storm howled outside, wind and rain lashed the window of Christine and Raouls bedroom. The moon, hidden by ink black masses of evaporated water struggled to overcome the oppressive weight of the thunder. She stared out at the maelstrom trying not to think about anything. The shadows were long, reaching out for her. She imagined they had faces, names, lives. They were the faces of people she had left behind.
Lay your head down child
I won't let the bogeyman come
Counting bodies like sheep
To the rhythm of the war drums
Erik's face…the mask, the sad, heavy eyes. He reached out to her, pleading with her to save him…to love him…but she had turned from him. She had lied to him and to herself. For now, she lay in a strange bed, with Raouls arm securely around her waist. Poor Raoul, he truly had no knowledge. He looked at her with the eyes of love. Rubbing futilely at her aching temples, she got up, letting his arm slide to the bed. The moon, given a brief respite, a short lull from the hellish noise, shone strongly through the window, bathing her in ice.
Pay no mind to the rabble
Pay no mind to the rabble
Pay no mind what
other voices say
They don't care about you, like I do, like I do
Safe from pain and truth and choice and other poison devils,
See, they don't give a damn about you, like I do.
Raoul, sweet as he may be, treated her like glass, and held himself above everyone else. He told her he loved her, that he was the only one who could truly love her. He sheltered her from the world; she hardly had to lift a finger to do anything. But Erik, he had believed in her strength. Believed in her…and she had betrayed him…oh Erik…
I'll be the one to
protect you from
Your enemies and all your demons
I'll be the
one to protect you from
A will to survive and a voice of reason
I'll be the one to protect you from
Your enemies and your
choices son
They're one in the same
I must isolate you
Isolate and save you from yourself
Tears coursed down her face, as the moon was again swallowed by the clouds, and the rain. This was no way to live. She spent her days alone, even though she was constantly surrounded by people. They were all dead to her, just obstacles. Faceless. When had she become this thing? Thin as a wraith, cold as death.
Swaying to the
rhythm of the new world order and
Count the bodies like sheep to
the rhythm of the war drums
The bogeymen are coming
The
bogeymen are coming
Keep your head down, go to sleep, to the
rhythm of the war drums
The white nightgown she wore flowed like liquid around her. The shadows were massing; ready to rip, to tear and rend her flesh, her traitor heart was screaming for absolution, her head was pounding. Then, out of the darkness and noise, a quiet presence, he was here… in the room with her.
Stay with me
Safe
and ignorant
Just stay with me
Hold you and protect you from
the other ones
the evil ones
don't love you son,
Go back
to sleep
He took her in his arms, kissed her. I forgive you he said. She was safe, and warm. Nothing could harm her here. And just as he was about to sweep her away with him…she woke up…
Don't fret precious
I'm here
Step away from the window
Go back to sleep
…Counting bodies like sheep…
