Ranma stood atop the Tendo Dojo watching the sunset. A single tear made its way down his face before he wiped it away.

"Why?" he asked, "Why must everything in my life go wrong?" (1) The young martial artist sat down, lost in his reverie. A strange whistling noise made its way to his ears. Ranma turned and watched as a strange capsule fell from the sky and landed on the outskirts of Nerima. He could feel a familiar energy; it feels like the magic of the Tauk, he thought, so he decided to investigate it.

As Ranma approached the pod he felt a familiar chi signature and turned around, scanning the area. It took him little more than a second to locate Kun Lo hen, corrupted matriarch of the Chinese Amazons, who was approaching the pod with an odd looking staff. Ranma continued to mask his aura as he followed the withered old lady. After a minute of following her he came upon a ridge overlooking the crash site. Cologne furtively glanced in his direction before turning back to the pod. From Ranma's position he could see hieroglyphics adorning the pods surface. Cologne pushed in some of them in an intricate sequence and the stood back as the pod opened with a whoosh. As the steam and gasses cleared Ranma could make out an outline of some sort of cat being.

Something within his core resonated at the sight, and then he knew. He leaped into the air and ran towards Cologne as he realized who the being was, the Goddess Bastet. All of his danger senses were flaring in response to Cologne's buildup of negative Ki, but he refused to listen. He had seen the madness in Cologne's eyes as she opened up the pod.

"Welcome, great one. We have long prepared for your arrival." She crooned. "If you will just follow me, I'm sure we can find accommodations for you." The cat-like being that had occupied the pod now stood before Cologne. "It is good to see that you survived my student," she stated. Cologne responded to this by whirling around to face the creature.

"I know why you're here and you will never fulfill your mission," she sneered as she launched a complex pattern of vacuum blades at the "Great One," the creature (Bastet) attempted to dodge, but took a bad wound in her shoulder. "I've improved a lot since you last came, and you will never have a chance to steal this soul, foul demon!" she prepared for another attack only to have Ranma intercept it.

"I won't allow you to harm her," he snarled as his the neko-ken manifested itself.

"You are a thousand years to young to defeat me, son in-law," She sneered, as she stepped back. "Mira-nakami!" she yelled as she released her Ki charge.

"I may be too young to beat you, but that doesn't mean that I'll give up," he yelled back at her

"So be it, Hand of Death!" she yelled as she sent a torrent of Saki towards him. Cologne shrieked as Ranma lashed out and deflected her attack with a well-placed ki blast.

"Rakshasa Bastet! Leave this place before she recovers!" he yelled at the Cat Goddess. Ranma felt the hairs on his neck stand on end as Cologne prepped a massive amount of chi. He recognized the pattern of a Hyru Shoten Ha variant and prepared to counter it.

"Hyru Shoten Ha revised, hell dragon slash!" the old woman yelled as she released her most powerful attack. Ranma leaped into the forming whirlwind, ignoring the sting of the slash, and used the spinning motion to propel himself to the top where he flipped over and launched his most recent variation of the move.

"Soul Cannon!" he yelled as he released a simultaneous Hyru Shoten Ha and Shinkuu Hadou-ken. Cologne attempted to dodge the massive blast but was was caught in the vortex, thus preventing her escape. As the dust cleared nothing was to be seen of the amazon matriarch. He turned to the now recognized Goddess, Bastet and bowed.

"I am sorry for the transgressions that this… Pah'tak, (2) has wrought on you, wise one." Bastet returned his bow, then turned to look down upon the city.

"I've heard of you, Ranma," she said softly. " I heard that you had successfully mastered my sister's corrupt art. And that you did it without any formal training in it. I have heard that you are a caring person, and that you will defend what you care about till the death. You have proved my assumptions correct. That old woman was once a student of mine, I would ask what it is that she has done to deserve such a cruel fate, even if she was acting strangely." Ranma bowed his head and turned away. A single tear could be seen trickling down his cheek.

"I'm sorry," he replied softly. "Recently she has become increasingly... cruel… Even her fellow Amazons have noticed this." Ranma turned to face her. "Cologne was a very wise teacher, but that all changed when she got her hands on a legendary artefakt, one of the seven legendary Sennen Items.

Bastet gasped, "So… she was tainted. I would know which of those accursed objects that turned her away as I have much experience with them. I know that each contained half a soul, which was sacrificed in the ritual that bound the items in the realm of shadows."

"This one, my lady," said Ranma as he revealed the Millennium Tauk hanging from a chain around his neck and Bastet gasped

"How is it that she got her hands on such a powerful artifact? And one so dangerous, the Tauk contains the soul of a daemon. How did she get it?" she asked, looking mollified. Ranma looked at his feet for a moment before responding.

"It was my fault. You see I was the original one to receive it, a traveling peddler by the name of Shadi gave it to me. Now as you must understand, I had a very chaotic life, so when Kun Lon offered to take the artifact from me in exchange for annulling my forced marriage to her daughter I accepted… Now something happened when the artifact left my grasp. It felt as though something of great evil had awoken in it. I mentioned this to her, but she ignored me." Ranma sighed as he finished.

I fear that the reason I received it was to protect it from that very demon. Within 2 weeks the demon manifested outside of her body, and killed all of my family except for a few who where… Elsewhere." Tears streaked down his face. "When I killed it, I took the artifact away from her, as it felt… wrong to leave her with it. As for the reason I had to… to purify her, she… she was a great teacher but she… She used it to see her future, but her perception was tainted, her control lacking.

She lost control of the image and saw the past instead. She saw back to a time before you were here on earth, 5000 years ago. She saw the goddess Sekmet, your sister, during a particularly gruesome blood rage in which she drained several people of their souls. I fear that this sight sent her into a similar state of mind." It took Bastet a moment to digest this information, before she started cursing in Arabian. Then she turned towards him, a quizzical look on her face.

"Why is it that you seem unaffected by the dark magic of that accursed object, cub? What of the demon? Even if you killed it, its mind would be bound within." Bastet asked. Ranma focused his chi and summoned his aura.

"I believe that due to my nature as the… heh… unofficial avatar of Chaos, that my own aura scoured the taint from this item and returned it to the state it was before the demon manifested from it, the state it was in when Shadi gave it to me." He answered truthfully. Bastet turned towards him.

"You said that here was no demon in it when you received it, then where did it come from? I remember there being a demon, so why do you not?" she asked. Ranma sighed and turned away for a moment before turning back to face her.

"When I received it there was a residual collection of shadows as though it had recently been purified. I believe that Cologne's order based Ki allowed those shadows to coalesce back into the demon they once were," he responded carefully, then smiled slightly before he continued. "I am able to control the power of this object without trouble, and I see a dark fate looming. The shadows of old are rising again. Even though the Pharaoh sealed them away, they, like the Sennen items, are returning. I would ask you to train me in your style of Neko-Ken as well as in the Shadow Games." Bastet turned towards him and rested a paw on his shoulder.

"You have everything you need, Cub. As for the Shadow Games, go to a place called… Domino City," she said, struggling with the foreign word. "There you will find a stall with the likeness of a turtle. Within, resides the holder of the Sennen Puzzle. He will teach you," she told him in an authoritative tone. "As for your Deck, take this." Bastet gave Ranma an ancient box, the size and shape of a shoebox. It was incrusted with an assortment of jewels and displayed a motif of a great tiger fighting a dark creature alongside a western style dragon and phoenix. Ranma could feel the power radiating from within.

"I'll take good care of these, I promise," he replied softly. "I just hope that these aren't your old, stinky sandals."

"Hahaheh… No, that is one of the greatest collections of rare and useful cards ever. As well as the greatest deck I have ever made. Of course, the magic in the seal will change the cards to match those used today." She replied with a thoughtful look. "Although I do remember leaving some of my underclothes in there." Ranma turned bright red.

"Good luck and may Ra guide you, trust me cub, you'll need it."

Chapter 2

"You lose Kaiba, I summon the mighty Osiris, God of the Sky and play this magic card, Feast of the Pharaoh, which lets one monster of mine attack an opponent directly at the cost of all but 10 of my life points!" yelled Yugi as he completed his combo. "And once again I have proved to everyone that my Dark Magician boxers are better than Kaiba's Blue Eyes White Dragon thong underwear!" the rest of the crew edged away as Kaiba planted his face to the floor, and Yugi began his victory dance.

"Remind me to never to get those two on a sugar rush again," said Joey solemnly, then winced in pain as a pillow hit him in the back of the head. "What the hey? Whayed ya do that, Bakura?"

"Humph, if I can't be evil than I'm damned if I'm not going to be annoying," stated the spirit angrily. "Besides, it's my 'birthday' tomorrow, and I haven't seen any sign of presents." This elicited a sigh from Ryou; Bakura was a very hard person to get along with. Even with the evil sucked out of him, he still retained his hunger for blood, and often used Ryou to sate it. He was, however, slowly getting better at 'caring' and he had finally told Ryou why he used to be evil (1). Suffice it to say that Yami didn't know what hit him.

"Calm down Bakura, we've defeated the last great evil, there is no need to get angry," said Yami calmly, before looking up as the doorbell rang. Who could that be, the sign says we're closed, then he blushed slightly.

/Maybe it's Aznu, lover-boy…err spirit/ thought Yuugi over their link. /Yami and Aznu, sitin in a tree, K-I-S-S-…/

"Finish that thought, so I'll be forced to do something to you involving leather and chocolate." Yami stated aloud, causing several people at the table to groan. Bakura however had a thoughtful look on his face. Hmm, now there is a thought, he mused. I'll have to compare notes with Yami. Yami forced himself to get up and head towards the door, however it was not whom he thought it would be.

Meanwhile

Ranma looked at the Kame Game shop and sighed, I never thought she meant it literally… ah well, what's the worst that can happen? Ranma proceeded to walk straight into the door SMACK note to self, watch out for locked doors, huh? Ranma scowled as he looked at the schedule. I have to wait an hour! What the hell is this shit? Ranma started to curse in Arabian, while not even realizing it. He then turned away to leave, when the door opened.

"Hello? Can I help you?" said an almost commanding voice. Ranma whirled around to face a young man with a strange hairstyle. Pharaoh? He thought as an ancient memory rose unbidden

Flashback

----------------------------------------------

"Come right this way honoured ambassador, the pharaoh will be with you in a moment," said a white haired youth. (2) "Oh, watch where you walk, he can be quite the prankster." Kaeken smiled and nodded at the servant.

"Quite," he replied before sitting himself on a futon. Kaeken reached into the folds of his cloak and removed a scroll. Hopefully this new pharaoh will decide to help us banish the Shadow Games, as they are becoming much too dangerous.

"Honoured Ambassador, if you will follow me, I will take you to the pharaoh. I am deeply sorry that he could not join you, but I had not known that he was in a shadow duel. He is still quite weak from it," said the white haired servant. Kaeken smiled, I should have known, with all that magic permeating the area; hopefully this was the last challenger for the day.

"Lead on, oh wise one," Kaeken said conspiratorially.

The youth couldn't help but smile, "They say that Egypt is run by the servants," he said, smiling. Kaeken noticed a band of gold adorning the 'servant's arm, as well as a knife hidden in his hair. He smirked at this, as the band not only signified that the youth was one of the Pharaoh's friends, but also that he was one of the pharaoh's lovers.Kaeken smiled brightly at the 'servant' before nodding as the youth led him to a small door and opened it.

"He is in there, milord." Kaeken was treated to the sight of a young boy sprawled out on a large, very soft bed. His clothes were in tatters and the only identifying mark that showed him to be the Pharaoh was the Sennen Puzzle lying beside him. He's so young, thought Kaeken. But determined, he thought as he saw the boy's eyes. (A/N: and sooo BISHIE! Yeah, I know I'm I guy, so fricking what!)

"Greetings, Son of Ra," Kaeken intoned, his formal Egyptian slightly off. The boy propped himself up a bit more and smiled slightly.

"Thank you, Ambassador, but please, call me Yami (3). I'm sorry for my state of dress," he said softly. He put his hands on the sides of the Sennen Puzzle, and it glowed softly, then he sat up straighter. "It provides me with extra strength when I need it." Kaeken nodded.

"I understand, and as I shall call you Yami, please, call me Kaeken," He stated. "I suppose the priests have told you why I am here?" Yami let out a halfhearted laugh.

"No, they feel that I'm too young to know these things. All they told me was that an ambassador from the orient was here to see me." he replied. "The say this even though it was I who killed the assassin that killed my mother."

Kaeken frowned, then responded, "I have come to warn you that the Shadow Games are weakening reality. If the walls between this realm and the shadow realm wear too thin, I'm afraid all will be lost. I have dealt with your father in the past, tried to convince him of this. I hope you are more open minded than he."

"I understand," he said. "And, I've already made a plan to seal the Games and the items away, so that no one, mortal or god, may spread their evil again, though it will cost each person involved in the ritual exactly half of what you call a soul, myself included. My father did enough to restrict the games and prevent what is happening now, but he went too far with the creation of the Sennen items." The pharaoh said tiredly.

Kaeken looked up at this, "How so, I thought that these items were forged to seal the shadow realm?" the pharaoh looked up, and Kaeken saw tears in his eyes.

"My father made these to seal away the realm, yes. But he did so with the blood of innocents, 1000 to be exact. Many of my friends, like the servant who let you in, lost their families to his madness. The only reason they survived was that I had taken them with me to a diplomatic event at Atlantis... what do you know about the duality of souls?"

Nichael looked startled, turned and spoke, "All but the most evil and good of mankind possess two souls, yin and yang. The light and the darkness…." Nichael's eyes widened. "this explaines it… the servant, your guards…. They posess but one soul, the light soul… they witnessed the death of their home… and lost a part of themselves to it.
I am sorry for their losses, and yours. It is good that you have decided to seal the realm, however even with the seal, greater evil still lurks in the shadows, there will come a time when this power is needed again…."

-----------------------------------

"Ah, hello," said Ranma, and he recovered from the flashback. "I was wondering if I could speak with you… in private," he said, revealing the Sennen Tauk. Yami's eyes widened.

"Of course," he responded. "But, I would like to inquire how you got that item, last I knew, a friend of mine had it." Ranma turned and scratched his head, before replying.

"Heh, it's a long story, sorry about this," he replied. Ranma then followed Yami into the store, ignoring the odd noises from the second level. "I think I should start at the beginning. You see I am a fighter and I have had such a chaotic live that sometimes I think that the kamis have it for me. But that is besides my point. It was a few months ago that I ran into a travelling peddler and helped him fend off a group of thugs attempting to steal from him. In his gratitude he gave me this Tauk, which I thought, at the time, was just a necklace. One of my teachers, however, recognized the object for what it truly was and offered to take it off my hands in exchange for annulling a marriage between her granddaughter and myself." Ranma sighed at this before continuing.
While she was a great teacher, she was sometimes a little too clever for her own good. She used the Tauk to see into the future, or rather, she tried. Instead she saw into the past. 5000 years into the past." Yami gasped at this before motioning for Ranma to continue.

Fin chapter

------------------------------

1: it is explained

2: yes, the 'servant' is indeed a young Bakura

3: Yes, I know Yami's name was actually Panseru/Atem/Atemu but for the sake of my story I will use Yami.

Note: I know, I know, Isis is supposed to have the Tauk, but in this universe, after it stopped working for Yugi, it was given to Shadi, who in turn gave it to Ranma.

Now as for the incident with Yugi and Kaiba, it will fit into my side stories, which elaborate on the relationships of:

Joey/Kaiba

Ryou/Bakura

Yugi/Yami

Aznu/Yami

Serenity/Honda (Tristan)/Ootogi (Duke)/Mai

And of course, the relationship between Yami and Yami Bakura and their respective hikaris.
