Married to a Tennis Star

Disclaimer: I do not own Prince of Tennis.

Sakuno patiently stirred the soup she was making for dinner that night. Soon, it would be time for the annual Seigaku tennis club picnic (hosted by herself and Ryoma) and she was thinking about what to make for it even now.

Well, I should make plenty of spicy food obento for the Fuji brothers. I better make a lot in Momo and Eji's obento. Oh, Oishi will be there too I better not make a seafood obento, or else he will freak out. What about Tezuka? Mah, I'll just make his favorite food. And what about Ryoma? Every year, I've always made something special for him. What should I make this year?

Sighing, Sakuno turned her eyes to the wedding photograph of her and Ryoma. For some reason, it always helped her think up of an idea. Now, she needed an idea and fast, since the picnic was in only three days.

Smiling to herself as she looked at the photo of her in a wedding gown and Ryoma in a suit with one arm around her waist and the other around her shoulder, she thought of their marriage so far. It had been five years since they had married and so far, it had been happy and filled with love. Sakuno was always there, cheering on for Ryoma just as she had done so before they had married, even if she couldn't be at the tennis match. Ryoma was still the quiet and cool prince, but in private, he showered Sakuno with affection.

Let's see. Ryoma likes chawamushi, but I make that for him all the time. Maybe I should make more than one obento for him? But what will I put in them?

Checking the soup to make sure it was not burning, Sakuno thoughtfully stirred it. Then, she thought of just the right thing to put in Ryoma's obentos. She would make five in all, each representing the years that the two of them had been married. Then, in each obento, she would put in Ryoma's favorite foods and some sakura mochi as well, her favorite snack.

Smiling in triumph, Sakuno finished dinner and quickly set up the table. Now, all that was left was to wait for Ryoma to come home.

Since Ryoma wasn't home yet from tennis practice, Sakuno started making doing the dishes, while thinking about her marriage to Ryoma so far.

The two were what the public considered an unexpected couple. Sakuno was shy while Ryoma was confident, the very opposite. However, they still loved each other dearly. They had started dating in high school after Ryoma had told Sakuno that he was in love with her. Then, after college, Ryoma and Sakuno had gotten married.

Living with Ryoma and being his wife was like a dream come true. However, there were sacrifices she had to make sometimes. Ryoma was often away at training camps, sometimes for weeks on end. When he had to do that, Sakuno always missed him dearly and would eagerly await his return all the time. Then, there were the tennis matches she couldn't see in person due to her needing to be close at home. They didn't have a maid even though they could easily afford one with, due to Ryoma's not desiring not to get one.

Every year, Ryoma always brought Sakuno somewhere special. Last year, he had taken her on her birthday to view the cherry blossoms. Sakuno smiled softly at the memory. It had been so romantic, with the sakura petals flying everywhere around her and Ryoma. And then, he had kissed suddenly, right under all the swirling petals. Sakuno still blushed at the memory.

Suddenly, the door opened and Ryoma's voice called out, "Iterrashai!"

Smiling, Sakuno greeted him calling out "Okarinasai, Ryoma!"

Coming into the kitchen where Sakuno was in, Ryoma asked, "Made dinner already? You could've started without me you know."

Smiling at her husband, Sakuno responded, saying, "I wanted to eat with you."

Smirking, Ryoma pulled his wife close to him and gently kissed her on the lips.
