A Dance Pattern
I'm in the middle of a dance floor and I don't know the dance. I freeze. I feel my face grow warm with humiliation. Everyone is staring at me, accusing looks, cold and harsh. I look up into the face of my dance partner, dark eyes, tanned skin, and full lips.
Kartik's face.
His eyes look at me, hurt.
"It's because I'm Indian isn't it?"
"Of course not" I say before I can stop the words that come spilling out of my mouth. "I don't even think of you as Indian." By this time the crowds around us are leaving, it must be getting late.
"Well that's a tremendous relief" he says cruelly and walks away, leaving me alone in the darkened room.
"Don't go Kartik!...I don't want you to go." " I admit quietly to myself.
I collapse under a weight I cannot understand called fear, sadness, and worry. I wake up, and I cannot remember this dream at all.

I fear I will never understand the way the world works. It's as if we all dancing a funny dance none of us know, we try to predict each others movements and each time we think we know what to do everything changes.
Pippa changed. Ann changed. Felicity changed. Kartik changed. Or maybe it's just me, I'm changing.
I stare out the window, at the sun beaming and the yells and screams of girls playing. I try to concentrate, truly I do. I cannot though. I know what I must do. I get up suddenly and my motions are a blur to me. In seconds I have on my undergarments and a dress. Then I am walking out the door to my room confidently.
I rush down a path I scarcely remember. To the gypsy camp. I see Kartik sitting down on a log by a burnt out fire.
"Kartik!" I bark out the word before I can register what a stupid thing I am doing.
His head snaps around.
"Miss, Doy- Gemma" He stands.
"Kartik….I" I say again catching my breath. "I….Do..Have you ever noticed how much life is like a dance?" He stares at me like I'm crazy. I can't say I blame him, but a troop on unflinching.
"But you see, I don't intend on messing this dance up" I say remembering a certain Christmas day.
Quick as a flash, I press my lips up against his. He steps back surprised. Then he wraps his arms around me pulling me flush against him and he rejoins our lips. A shock makes its way through me and I gasp giving Kartik the opportune moment to slide his tongue in to my mouth. I manage to react quickly enough and we battle each other until we have to part for much needed air.
"I don't intend on messing this dance up either" Kartik says panting.
I think I just may be learning this dance pattern.
This is actually a re-post of 'A Dance Pattern' because some parts of it were bugging me … so please take the time to r/r, it would be greatly appreciated.
