This is a character study of the Master in his debut appearance in the Fourth Doctor story 'Logopolis.' In case you're not familiar with him, he laughs. All the time, a sinister chuckle--very stagey. I like a man who's happy in his villainy. Most quotes are from 'Logopolis,' some are from 'Keeper of Traken', and I threw in one from the Iliad, as translated by Pope, in which the gods laugh at crippled Vulcan.
The Master has a killer act. It's almost a drag act: black velvet suit, evil beard, rabid blue eyes.
He laughs.
"Nyssa! Help me!" "A new body. At last."
Careless with his toys, Death has left his doll collection on the Barnett Bypass.
He laughs. He laughs.
"He's a Time Lord. In some ways we have the same mind."
"Envy is the beginning of all true greatness."
The TARDIS shakes. The girl in the purple uniform falls.
'Unextinguish'd laughter shakes the skies.'
Tegan is funnier alive.
It's all one big joke.
He's knocking them dead out there.
Alone, he laughs.
