Drabble. Inspired mostly by the 4th of July (it's a bit late for a July 4th fic though), and also somewhat by The Paopu Festival by xxx-traitor-xxx.
Ansem the Wise: PB does not own Kingdom Hearts or the idea of the Paopu festival.
!WARNING!
Contains fluff and cheesy lines (cheese puffs?), Shonen-ai, and Shojo-ai. Don't like? Don't read.
Also, I didn't want to bother my editor with a little drabble, so the little problems with it haven't been worked out. Sorry.
Loud crackling noises, bangs, and whistling sounds filled the otherwise quiet night as fireworks painted pictures in the sky. Yellow, green, purple, red, blue and orange sparks streaked across the sky in celebration of the legendary fruit that was found only on Destiny Islands.
A young boy sitting on the beach gasped in awe, his wide cerulean eyes reflecting the large Paopu fruit displayed in brilliant yellow and green embers in the sky. He was only one of those on the small beach who reacted in this way. He had brought a group of friends to the small isle he called his own. Six other adolescents had seated themselves along the shore.
Kairi and Larxene were sitting a yard or so from where the ocean lapped at the white sands of the beach. The red-haired girl had situated herself in front of her girlfriend, whose legs surrounded her on either side. The fair-haired woman's lips were at Kairi's ear and she whispered sweet things to her as she wrapped her arms around the smaller girl's waist to hold her close.
Axel, Demyx, and Roxas were seated farther away from the ocean, near the freshwater pool. It was fed by the small waterfall that flowed from a spring that came from the mountain in the middle of the tiny island. The two older boys were sitting next to each other, with the youngest of the mischievous trio a few feet in front of them. Demyx was close to Axel, almost on top of him, his hands at his lap, gently fingering the strings of his ever-present sitar. Everyone knew the two were lovers, but the pair would never show it. They restricted themselves to fleeting touches and stolen kisses when no one was watching. They would never admit their love either. They would deny it to the death if accused, and the accuser was likely to receive a bruise or two from Axel, who claimed that he wasn't gay, even though he had never had a girlfriend in his life and was currently running his finger along the seam of Demyx's back pocket.
Riku and Sora sat at the very spot where the sea and land met. Waves broke on bare feet with toes that wiggled in the cool salt water. Fingers traced lines in the loose sand and brushed against one another, causing the brunet to blush slightly, but his friend made no move to draw away, and he didn't either.
"The fireworks are beautiful, aren't they Riku?"
"Yeah, but nowhere near as beautiful as you," the silver-haired teen said softly, taking his eyes from the sky to look into the azure depths of Sora's eyes. He took his hand from the sand, a few stray grains falling off the pale flesh to meet their brothers on the ground as he lifted it up to cradle the younger boy's face. They leaned together, lips meeting in a kiss. Short and chaste, but filled with love and all of the emotion of the bursts of color that exploded across the sea behind them.
"I love you, Riku."
"I love you too, Sora."
Riku wrapped an arm around the other's waist, drawing him close. Sora smiled and fell against him, resting his head on Riku's shoulder. Although a few silvery strands of hair and fallen across his eyes, the brunet didn't move to brush them away; he no longer cared to watch the fireworks. He was close to Riku, and that was all that mattered.
