A/N-I know that this isn't the best thing out there, but I got bored one night (okay, 2 AM) and I decided to write this. It's just a little one shot that I came up with. I am almost positive that Jacob is out of character, but it was worth a shot! Please read and review!
Disclaimer-I do not own Twilight or any of its characters.
I awoke with the warm sun penetrating my porcelain face on a nice Saturday morning. It was heartbreaking to wake up and not have Edward here by my side, but he was out hunting. Even though I wasn't able to look forward to a fun-filled day of surprises with Edward, I promised Jacob that I would spend a day with him for old-time sake.
As I made my way out to my red Chevy the lovely sunshine turned into a downpour of cold spine-tingling rain. "Great," I yelled into the sky as I was getting soaked. "Just great!"
I plopped into the house and once again dried my hair and changed my clothes. By the time I was done getting ready the rain had let up and I headed out to my Chevy. This time with an umbrella.
The drive to the reservation was a nice one compared to what normal days were. The rain had stopped and I enjoyed a smooth ride with minimal splashing of the groundwater.
Jacob met me at the reservation with a wide grin on his tan face. "Hi, Bella!"
"Hi," I replied. I eyed Jacob suspiciously. He seemed a little more…antsy than usual.
After a short awkward silence, Jacob said the words that I dreaded. "So, why don't you say we go hiking?"
Hiking. He said the word "hiking". My coordination skills certainly were going to be tested…again.
I survived the hike with very few scrapes. I was proud of myself.
We sat on tree stumps to take a breather. I inhaled the deep smell of the forest and its inhabitants. I pulled out a stick of gum and let the peppermint scent take over my mouth as Jacob started talking to me about stuff that was going on in the reservation since the last time I visited. I missed about half of his speech because I was taking in my surroundings.
"Bella, I really like that we have our friendship. And I cherish the fact that we still do have a friendship considering what has happened with my dad and such. And, well, I have a very, very important question to ask you," he mused as he looked me squarely in the eye. His eyes were filled with compassion that I simply could not return. Don't get me wrong, Jacob's my friend but this was just too much! He knew that Edward and I were together. He knew how we felt about each other. He knew.
Abruptly, he took me by the shoulders and made me look him straight in the eye. "Bella," he started. Oh my gosh! What was happening? "Can I have a piece of gum?"
