Heero was (once again) repairing his Gundam after (yet again) a failed suicide attempt. Well, technically it was called a mission, but we all know better. And while he was doing this, he wasn't trying to block out Duo's radio. He hated the fact that the American pilot cranked his radio up after a mission. And the music; to 'twangy' in his opinion. But one song caught his attention. And against his will, the music made him remember every mistake he had ever made.
What
goes around comes around
Feel it breathin' down heavy on you
You
made that bed you're layin' on
Deeds that you have done
Now you
can't undo
He remembered all the people he had killed either by accident or by senseless destruction. And unfortunately, the one mistake he was forced to remember the most: the little girl and her dog.
You've
got bones in your closet
You've got ghosts in your town
Ain't
no doubt, dear,
They're gonna come out
They're waiting for the
sun to go down
You can't hide from your demons
Feel them all
lurking around
You're runnin' scared cause
You know they're out
there
They're waiting for the sun to go down
Heero was forced to remember every waking detail of the little girl. The dress and hat she wore. The way she laughed. Her dog and how they had been playing in the 'sun'. He remembered the colony she had lived on. He remembered the flower she gave him.
It's
a long and hard row to hoe
When seeds that you sow
Grow by the
wicked moon
Be sure your sins will find you out
The past will
hunt you down
And return to tell on you
She had given him the flower so he wouldn't be sad anymore. She had asked him if he was lost, and to his reply she gave him that blasted flower. Heero slammed his fist against the seat of the cockpit (to which Duo asked if he was alright, and Heero answered with his usual 'Hn'). Despite his wishes for the song to be over, it continued.
You've
got bones in your closet
You've got ghosts in your town
Ain't
no doubt, dear,
They're gonna come out
They're waiting for the
sun to go down
You can't hide from your demons
Feel them all
lurking around
You're runnin' scared cause
You know they're out
there
They're waiting for the sun to go down
Oh,
it stands to reason
Every dog will have his day
Your day is
leaving
Better hold on tight
Here comes the night
Unable to stand it any longer, Heero jumped from the Gundam and ran to a shuttle. Ignoring the other pilots, he flew to the colony the little girl had lived on. He immediately went to the destruction site, which no one had bothered to repair over the years. He silently went to the park, picked a flower and returned to the site. Making a mound of rocks (like he had before), he made a small memorial for the little girl. Her belongings had long been gone, but he could still see them on the ground as if it was that fateful day. Heero silently placed the flower on the rocks, and realized that someone else's radio was playing the same song Duo's had.
You've
got bones in your closet
You've got ghosts in your town
Ain't
no doubt, dear,
They're gonna come out
They're waiting for the
sun to go down
(Waitin' for the sun to go down)
You can't hide
from your demons
Feel them all lurking around
(They've got ya
runnin')
You're runnin' scared cause
You know they're out
there
They're waiting for the sun to go down
They're
waiting for the sun to go down
Down
What goes around comes
around
Feel it breathin' down heavy on you
Smirking, Heero stood. 'If demons are coming to get me, I'm not running anywhere.' He thought, turning away. Wing Zero still needed fixed and there was a lot of other things he had to do.
But he made a mental note to conveniently smash Duo's radio next time the American wasn't in the hanger.
