Nope, I don't own Sam...
---------
Samantha Carter stood in the freezing rain staring at the stone in front of her. She could see her own miserable reflection in the newly polished granite. The carved name cut through her reflection, leaving a distorted empty spot where her heart should have been.
It had been three weeks since the disastrous mission that took him away, but it seemed like three hundred years. At first she didn't believe it…she couldn't, but it was one of those defining moments when she knew everything was going to change. She tried to cling to the past, tried desperately to hold onto something, anything that was him.
The rain fell harder but Sam didn't leave. She took the single red rose that she had brought and placed it on top of the polished stone. She let her hand linger there for a second before hurriedly turning and walking away. She felt as if this was a true ending, the closure that she really needed but never really wanted. It felt as if she was turning her back on a part of herself... leaving a part of herself lying underneath the gnarled branches of an ancient tree.
She looked back at the stone one last time and a single tear found its way down her cheek. She forced her frozen feet to carry her away from the grave and the dismal graveyard. In the land of the dead, Sam felt hollow and alone.
As she passed through the gate that would lead her back to the land of the living, Sam felt a piece of her soul remain trapped behind the heavy iron bars of the cemetery. Life would go on, but nothing would ever be the same again.
Somehow she would fit the shattered pieces of her life back together, but there would always be the missing pieces…the ones she left lying in the cemetery.
A/N You can decide who died. Jack, Daniel, anyone else...it's really up to you. Just don't forget to review.
