During the next battle, Ilyana stayed near Mordecai, like always. Mordecai thought she seemed different today. Somehow…happier.
He decided to say hello.
"Hello Ilyana. Everything ok?" he asked her.
"Yes. I'm fine." She replied.
"Ok then." He said turning back towards the battle around them.
"…Wait!" she said. "There's something I need to tell you."
"What is it?" he asked turning around once more.
"…Is there anyone here…that…that you like?" she asked.
"Sure there is! I like you, and Lethe, and General Ike-" she cut him off.
"N-No! Like, is there anyone t-that you…love?" she asked shyly. He seemed too stunned to answer, so she answered for him. "B-Because…I…I love you." She said, somehow even more quietly than before. (But of course he heard her with his amazing laguz ears.) She leaned up and kissed him gently on the cheek, then ran off to go help the others, pleased with herself.
Mordecai smiled. I love you too fragile beorc.
