Surrender

She drank the water hurriedly; as if the very stream itself would somehow run out of water at any moment and that she had to consume as much of the precious mineral as possible. She dunked her sword into the water and rubbed the dried blood off of the blade with her bare hands. She thought of jumping into the cold water; but feared the noise it might cause. Panting, she looked around desperately for a hiding place. She chose a large tree and climbed its branches midway; until she was no longer visible. She lied down on one of the trees larger and stronger branches and clutched her sword in her hands as if it were as precious to her as the water had been. She closed her eyes for a moment. A flash of light flooded her mind with the outline of a shadowy figure approaching her slowly. The branch cracked and she was slightly lowered. She jumped up at the sudden motion; putting too much weight onto one side, causing the branch to break completely. She fell with a thud and struggled to her feet. She dusted herself off and felt a small pain in her left arm. Upon inspection she realized it was neither broken nor seriously injured; only a minor bruise. She could live with that. She heard the sound of dogs barking from all directions. A look of fear set in as she gathered up her sword and unsheathed it. After all, she had been hiding out in the woods for five days; being caught was only a matter of time. One dog came from behind her and chomped down on her left arm widely. She screamed at the sudden pain and swung at the source; knocking the dog to the ground. The animal ran from her swiftly; causing her to believe that they would be closing in on her location soon. She trembled at the cold of the night and bandaged the womb with a piece of her blood-stained shirt. She could hear the leaves crushing underneath her enemy's feet. The appeared in unison. A total of twelve men and five dogs surrounded her; more than enough to break a girl of her stature. She had been a powerful priestess of the moon for the small city of Allistine; never knowing any kind of combat. The sword had been given to her for protection, but in truth it would only do her more harm than good in her opinion; for it was so heavy and difficult to lift that it cut her attack time and power in half. They yelled out shrills and cries of war. She screamed a horrible shriek of terror as she closed her eyes and lifted the sword up in front of her.ten minutes passed with much shouting and cries of defeat. After all the noise had settled and all was quiet, she hesitantly opened one eye and gazed into someone else's brown ones. She squealed and backed away until he came into full view. He was leaning over her and looking into her eyes intensely. She looked away at the ground to see the bodies of all those that he had slain. She looked back up. He smiled widely. "I could hear you scream from a mile away." He said softly as he picked her up without warning and placed her gently onto the tan horse. He climbed on behind her and slid his hands across her waist as he grabbed ahold of the reins. "You would be wse to surrender to me…" he whispered into her ear as he motioned for the horse to continue.
