Notes: This is my first Axel/Roxas fic, as well as the first fic I've posted here. Be gentle, please. And I know it's short; I MIGHT go back and add more, for each part of Axel/Roxas-ness in the game.
I don't own (the rights to) Kingdom Hearts, Axel, or Roxas. Damn.
"Roxas, come on. Please. You know I mean this," Axel chased Roxas around for hours on end, trying to get him to hear him. "Don't do this. You're just hurting yourself. You're hurting me. You know everyone loves you here, why can't you stay?"
"I'm not satisfied. I'm not stupid; I know Xemnas is using me; he needs the keyblade. No one 'loves' me there. They can't love; they only pretend, because Xemnas ordered them too. Why did the keyblade chose me, anyway! I don't want this. I never asked for this! I have to know... I have to know why it chose me." Roxas clenched his fists. He was not about to be some pawn. He wanted to create his own destiny; not help someone else create their own. He was himself, no one else...
...Wasn't he?
He knew everyone loved him over there. They were all like big brothers (and sister, in Larxene's case, even though she's not exactly sisterly, but that's bedside the point) to him.
"Roxas, please. Just listen to me!" Axel grabbed Roxas' hands. "You can't leave. Don't go."
Roxas faced him. He couldn't leave Axel like this; he just couldn't. He was a mess. It would be heartless... but that's what he was. But Axel would never leave him. Axel would die for him.
Could something that never existed die? Could something that never was born die?
Axel would make it possible, if it made Roxas happy. But Roxas never would do that for him. Would he?
"I'm the one who wants to leave the Organization, Roxas. You and Demyx are the only ones I really like. Please... please stay. What do I have to do to prove it? I'll get on my knees! Just... don't leave."
Roxas traced Axel's face with his eyes. His unmistakable red hair, his bright green eyes; Roxas could sense something in them. What was it? Worry? Love? Lust? He couldn't tell. He traced Axel's tattoos – they were shaped like tears. The tears Axel could never cry, would never cry. Roxas blushed, but turned away.
"I can't stay here," he squeaked. He swatted his hands away from Axel's and clenched them. The blonde gulped. He didn't want to stay. He wanted to stay with the Organization – they did respect him, even if it wasn't real. They were like his family. His big, dysfunctional family.
"No, don't go, please!" Roxas wouldn't listen. Don't look back, don't look back, don't look fucking back.
"No one would miss me." He turned back. It has to be this way. He walked away, leaving Axel behind.
"That's not true," Axel muttered. Roxas stopped for a brief second. "I would..." Roxas moved faster. He swallowed air, hard. Something formed in his eyes of azure; cold, salty, wet. He could finally find himself, he could finally create his own destiny, and all it cost him was the one he cared about most. Not loved. No. Nobodies couldn't love. It couldn't be. There was no way he and Axel were in love; that's too far!
"I'm sorry," the boy whispered. His tears fell like the raindrops above him. "We'll meet again... Maybe again in this life, maybe in the next, I don't know which. Whichever one, we'll meet again."
He could only hope Axel heard him. He always had, so what made now any different?
Reviews will get you cookies. As in, REVIEWS KTHXBAI. -cough cough- I will give you... um... bishounen? Yeah. That.
Also, I realize this is abnormally cliché; if you are nice enough to review, do not point this out to me. I'm not stupid; I know this has been done a billion times, but I'm doing it too. 'Cause inspiration needs to start somewhere, right?
