Edward Elric is still a child, but refuses to remember that he is not an adult. One memory of his childhood was getting piggyback. Ed got a piggyback ride was when he was four and fell. He hurt himself while under the watch of one of the local teenage girls. The girl was watching him, Al and Winry.
"Well, Ed how did you manage this one," laughed the girl.
"I fell," yelled Ed.
"Alright," said the girl, going to pick up the smaller version of Ed when he complained about not being a baby.
"And this is coming from the boy who won't drink his milk," said Winry. Ed stuck his tongue out at her in a playful way.
"Do you want a piggyback ride, that's not for baby's," said the babysitter. Ed agreed and got on his sitter's back and went into the house.
"Hey, I'm taller than Al, and Winry," said Ed, "And you too." The babysitter smiled. Ed liked to be taller than everyone.
The second time he realized he was a child, Ed was already a State Alchemist just a few months after even. At first, he would be under the command of Colonel Roy Mustang and his right hand women First Lt. Riza Hawkeye. Roy Mustang was not one for paperwork and hoped to any higher being that Edward would at least would want to play outside. Unfortunately he isn't in any of the higher ups good graces. (That seemed to be the truth with Central as well.) Naturally with that devious mind of his to get out of paperwork.
"Hawkeye don't you think Edward has been working hard," asked Roy. His 1st Lt looked at him.
"Yes," said Riza, wondering what he was up to.
"Don't you think he deserves a break? And who better to accompany him than his commanding officer," said Roy.
"In order, Yes and I don't think so," said Riza.
"He can't just go off, he might not come back until tomorrow," said Roy, trying reason.
"Like you."
"Ah, right nevermind," said Roy.
"I shall accompany him and Alphonse to the park for an hour, while you finish your paperwork," said Hawkeye.
"Alright," said Roy, knowing when a battle is lost. Oh well might as well get it over with while Hawkeye, Ed and Al go outside...I hate this office sometimes.
While Roy was talking to him self in his head, Riza had went to collect the Elric brothers from the library. Al and Ed were reading some books.
"Good afternoon 1st Lt Hawkeye," greeted Al.
"Hey Hawkeye, what does the Colonel need now," said Ed, still reading his book.
"He believes that you are working too hard and deserve a break," said Riza.
"I bet the Colonel tried to get out of paperwork again," said Ed.
"Yes he did."
"And to spite him we are all taking an hour break," said Ed.
"Your are correct as usual Edward. But I do think you are working hard," said Riza.
"Not really," said, "and I still have to do my report from the last mission."
"Please brother let's take a break," pleaded Al, with his brother.
"Fine," said Ed, "Let's go get something to eat."
"I'll come," said Riza. "After all you are still children." Ed twitched, but decided against saying anything to Riza. In life Ed does realize he is a child still, but that doesn't mean he wants to be treated like one.
