Title: Nobody In His Right Mind

Rating: PG

Summary: Just a one-shot that I wanted to write. Its how Jason's dealing with the break up six months after it happened. The song is: Nobody In His Right Mind Would Have Left Her by George Strait.

I burn with desire each time my heart fans the fire
To that old flame that burns inside of me.

Jason Morgan sat on the couch in his large living room of Penthouse Two. Thinking about her. The woman who still had his heart. Samantha McCall. She was his world. But now, she was gone. He had pushed her away, just leaving her in her hospital bed after she had just woken up from a coma.

She cried when I left her, now I cry to forget her.

Oh, how foolish I was to ever want to leave.

He didn't stay long enough to give her a good explanation, just told her it was over and almost ran out of the room. Jason couldn't watch her crying, all because of him. His heart broke with each step he took away from that small hospital room. But, Jason knew he had to do this. He had to keep her safe from the dangerous world he lived in.

Now, sitting on the overstuffed couch, he couldn't help but silently cry. He had been trying to forget her for almost six months now. But his heart wouldn't let him. Jason knew that he would miss her, but never in a million years did he think it would hurt this bad. It took a while for him to finally realize he was stupid for leaving her. Sadly, it was too late now.

'Cause nobody in his right mind would've left her.
I had to be crazy to say goodbye.
Nobody in his right mind would've left her.

Saying good bye to the teary eyed, beautiful brunette was hard for him to do. But Alexis Davis, her mother, kept saying it was his fault she had been shot. It was his fault that she almost died. Alexis blamed him for everything.

Although he now realized that he had a choice, he didn't think about that back then. Alexis had made him feel so guilty, that he really did believe Sam was better off without him. Yeah, she may be hurting, but he did what he thought was best for her. Not even giving her a choice in the matter.

Even my heart was smart enough to stay behind.
I still carry her picture; I wish her well
With the new love I know she's found by now.

Jason still had Sam's picture in his wallet. It was from when she was pregnant with Sonny's child. Baby Lila was going to be Sam and Jason's world. But, she was still born. Jason knew that was about the time their love story truly began.

But, now, two years after her death, Jason was broken hearted while Lila's mother was out dating Patrick Drake. He had flirted with her repeatedly while Jason and Sam were together, so after Sam's heart appeared to have healed, she began to date him and eventually seemed to have fallen in love with him. Jason said that he was happy for her and wished her well, but truly, he wasn't and he didn't.

Each night finds me dreamin', each day I spend thinkin'
How much I wish she was still around.

Yes, it was Jason's fault that she was gone. His fault that she moved on with Patrick. He was the reason that his nights were filled with dreams of her. Them making love, joking around or just being together. Jason hated waking up, because he knew when he did, not only would the visions of her go away but he'd also only go back to thinking about her and how much he missed her and wished she was still his.

'Cause nobody in his right mind would've left her.
I had to be crazy to say goodbye.
Nobody in his right mind would've left her.

Even my heart was smart enough to stay behind

Slowly, Jason got up off of the couch and turned off the lights, making his way upstairs. Hoping, that one day, he'd be able to think about her and his heart wouldn't ache as much as it did in that exact moment.
