SEE IT
Seeing is what I do.
My job is to evaluate what I see, and what I don't.
I can see a blood splatter and piece together a death. A life. But I can't seem to see the one I'm living.
Outside of the lab, things slip past me. I can't bring myself to see the effect my life has on someone else's.
On Sara's.
Never saw her pull away, didn't see her retreating from life, hiding from it. I was blind to her starting to die, the slow death from constant rejection.
I didn't see her, until I finally looked.
HEAR IT
It's a talent, not from the job, but from living. Living around him. I've learned how to hear things that aren't said.
The pauses.
The stillness.
The silences.
You learn how to find the meaning in those.
I hear the words he doesn't say. I've learned to read his silences, his pauses. Find the hidden conformation in the way he says nothing at all.
Wanting me to stay, a silent plant.
Figuring out us, the long pauses.
Telling me we're real and right, his noiseless sleep.
I've learned to hear what Gil tells me, when he says nothing at all.
