Hello (again) Everybody! Alright, I lied. Apparently that last drabble of mine wasn't my only Pirates fic after all. ((beasts head on computer)) Since this is a companion to Nothing Like the Stories, you don't have to read both of them for this to make sense. But for those who have read it, it's another stranded-on-the-island thingy, taking place at the exact same time the as the first one. Although this time it's in Jack's POV, and he's feeling a little…cynical I guess? I don't really know for sure.

Anyway, this is dedicated to dogeatdog, my first reviewer for Nothing Like the Stories and the inspiration for this one. I just wish you'd left your e-mail address or something so I could have thanked you properly! Oh well. Hope you like it!

Disclaimer: I do not own Pirates of the Caribbean or any of the characters/locations therein. I do, however, own the story.

Nothing Like Reality

Here I am, once again stuck on a miserable pile of dirt they dare to call an 'island'. At least this time I have company. Or maybe that isn't such a good thing, I don't really know.

Of all the people in the world, I end up marooned with her. Elizabeth Swan. Normally I wouldn't mind being all alone with a woman, but this…She's really mastered the art of getting under my skin.

Her accusations are starting to ring in my ears. It stings a little, seeing the look in her eyes as she comes to the realization that the pirate she idolizes is nothing but a mere human. Well that's life, Luv. There are no storybook heroes here.

Truth. She's asked if there's any truth to it all. That question is almost laughable…almost. The truth, my dear, is much heavier than the fiction. The adventures in those tales are nothing like reality. Nothing at all. It's a shame that you had to learn this the hard way.

You see? You see the scars? The burn marks? The bullet holes? That is the reality. That is something never mentioned in the stories. Men, humans, are not invincible. We bleed, we die, we love. I wonder, could you ever see the real Jack Sparrow in the same way you used to see the infamous pirate captain? Could you ever feel for a mortal man what you used to feel for a legend? Could you love someone who's simply human and nothing more?

Because it's the human, the real Jack, that's fallen for you now.
