Angel Boy

Lady Inari: One-shot, inspired by the song 'Angel Boy' by Tim McGraw. The character that I considered this to focus around kept changing, until I finally landed on Ari. None of the flock boys seemed to fit, but then it occurred to me that Ari was perfect.

The pain… I just wished that it would go away- the pain of the wings protruding from my back, the pain of Jeb- my father- never loving me, the pain of life.

I was laying on my muscled stomach on a huge, feather bed. My wings were laid flat out. The whitecoats at the School said that they could change my DNA to take out my lupine genes, while at the same time, integrating avian in. So I would be like Max and her Flock- maybe to fit in, to be loved, and forgiven, by them.

I had agreed and in a few short hours, I would be wolf free and my wings would no longer hurt me.

But I didn't want to have to pay the price the whitecoats for the surgery. As soon as I was recovered enough to fly, I would be away from the School and hope to be able to avoid the other Erasers that would be sent after me.

There was a knock on the door and I rose, to follow Father.

"Are you sure you want to do this? You don't have to, you know."

I snarled at Father, but didn't say a word.

He was quiet, as we made our way through the sterile white walls of the School. "Dear Max will not accept you, even without wolf genes in your body."

I turned and grabbed the front of his shirt, shoving Father up against the wall with a satisfying 'thump.' "How the Hell do you know that?"

"She is fourteen, Ari. Need I remind you that you are only eight? And that you won't de-age? You will never have your childhood back."

My fist collided with the wall just to the side of his head, creating a small crater. I released Father and stalked angrily back down the hallway- to my destruction, or to new life, I didn't know. But I would find out.

Inari- Yeah, It's really short, but the ending's up to you.

Ari- (scowling) you're mean, you know that, Lady Inari?

Inari- (grins) yeah, I do, but you'll have to deal. Well, see y'all.

Signing off, Lady Inari!
