(Scene: a typical house on a typical street. A young man, Dylan, stands on the porch, looking nervous. He rings the doorbell. A girl, Kim, answers)

Kim (looks puzzled): Dylan? What are you doing here?

Dylan: Hey, Kim. I came to talk to you.

Kim: How did you know where I live?

Dylan: Oh, you know, I asked around a bit...

Kim: Um, well do you think you could have called? You live way out of town, right? (She looks up and down the deserted street). Did you walk here?

Dylan: Uh, well, yeah, but I was I town, so...

Kim: So...what is it?

Dylan: I just wondered...I mean...if you would maybe...want to...go out with me?

(Kim stares at him for a few seconds. She smiles a bit then walks toward him. Dylan holds his breath)

Kim: So...how much are you getting paid for this?

Dylan (Looks very confused): What? What do you mean?

Kim: Well, I'm sure you guys are all having a real laugh about this, but seriously. I'm curious. They must be paying you a lot.

Dylan (Stares at her for a moment): What would make you think I'm not serious?

Kim (Speaks as though this is the most obvious thing in the world): Because guys like you don't go for girls like me. It's, like, against high school nature.

Dylan (A little angrily): And what do you mean by 'guys like you '. Hell, what do you mean by 'girls like me'?

Kim: Well, by 'guys like you' I mean, popular, funny (She falters a bit) attractive guys. And by 'girls like me, I mean nerds. (Dylan gives her a bewildered look). Not that I'm not proud of being a nerd. No, I'd hate to be another one of those freaky clones that you guys typically go after. They all look the same, dress the same, talk the same...it's creepy.

Dylan: But don't you get it? That's exactly why I like you so much. You're not fake, like the rest of them. You're funny, and smart and beautiful. You're real. What do I have to do to prove it to you?

(Kim is still not convinced)

Kim (She thinks for a moment): Kiss me.

Dylan (Does a double take): W-what?

Kim: You heard me. If you really like me as much as you say you do, then you should have no problem with that, right?

(Dylan continues to stare at her).

Kim: I didn't think so. See, obviously you don't really like me, otherwise you--

(He kisses her. After several moments, they break apart).

Kim (Clears her throat): I, uh, didn't think you were going to do that.

Dylan: Yeah, I figured as much, reading between the lines, there.

Kim: But you know what? (She smiles) I'm glad you did.
