Author's Notes: In this (not so) brilliant work that I have produced, Hinata will be OOC. This will influence other characters to make them OOC as well. No complaining, now. If I ever get to writing Chapter 1, it will be longer. Just don't expect it soon, because I'm working on another project involving the world collapsing into an imbalance.

Prologue

The Calm before the Storm

An eight-year old Hinata subconsciously caressed the spot behind her neck, disappointedly notingthe distorted image of her fingers with a sigh.

Letting her feet trace patterns on the water, she focused her attention on the ripples that her gesture formed.

She let her eyes linger on the movement of the water a while longer before she muttered, "Neji."

Soft footsteps and the rustling of leaves could be heard in the previously silent area as Hyuuga Neji stepped deliberately towards Hinata. His hands were in his pockets and his forehead bare, revealing the Hyuuga Jyuuin to anyone who would have looked at him.

Fiddling with the ribbon that kept his hair together for a second, he eased himself to sit down beside Hinata, mimicking her actions as he dipped his bare feet into the cool waters of the river.

"Hinata-sama."

For a moment, Hinata tensed almost visibly under Neji's Byakugan, but immediately she relaxed.

"Don't call me that, ani-ue."

A soft smile graced his lips once she had said that.

Then, the world fell yet again into peaceful silence, save the chirping of birds and the flow of the water, as the two Hyuuga' basked in the serene quiet of their surroundings.

They did not speak a word after that, nor looked at each other, but chose to continue gazing at the placid surface of the water. The rock that they sat on was hanging a few feet into the river. A tree perpetually shaded them from the sunlight, only letting a few beams glance through the leaves.

Their eyes wandered, and only focused on the stray leaf or flower that would, every once in a while, fall off the branches. It would then glide down onto the water, only to be carried away by the slow currents and lazily rotate with the wind.

The wind would also play with their hair, blowing it into their faces, but they didn't mind.

They knew that, in the near future, they would no longer have any time to bask in each other's presence.

Not anymore.

So, for now, they'd just enjoy what little peace that they had.

...Before the war began.
