This is one of my favourite songs and I just had to use it for a story.
I've tried to write this in such a way that I don't reveal who the main character is straight away...I tried to give gentle clues until finally revealing it.
Think of this as AU.
He sat on top of the Golden Gate bridge, watching the sun move across the sky. His face held a distinct expression of sadness, loss and hopelessness.
"The summer sun is
fading as the year grows old,
And
darker days are drawing near.
The
winter winds will be much colder...
Now
you're not here."
Why had she been taken from him? It wasn't fair. She was his one true love...his heart and soul...and now without her he was at a loss at how to live without her...
"I watch the birds
fly south across the autumn sky,
And
one by one they disappear.
I
wish that I was flying with them...
Now
you're not here."
It had happened so fast - he could've sworn it was only yesterday they had met. But, her life had been taken in a blink of an eye and he hadn't been able to do a thing to stop it.
"Like
the sun through the trees you came to love me...
Like
a leaf on a breeze you blew away..."
She had always loved Autumn - the calmest time of the year...if you excluded Halloween. It was probably fitting, then, that her death had come upon the change of the seasons and amongst the fallen leaves.
"Through Autumn's golden
gown we used to kick our way,
You
always loved this time of year.
Those
fallen leaves lie undisturbed now...
Cause
you're not here."
The clouds above him suddenly opened up and let the rain fall. His eyes looked down over the bridge edge. He seriously considered jumping and ending it all.
He wouldn't though - he had to be strong for the boys, they'd already lost one parent. Of course there was also the chance that he wouldn't die. He remembered, just after it happened he had all but begged a darklighter to shoot him...luckily his sister-in-laws had been there to talk sense into him.
For now he was just content to sit on the bridge and cry for the woman he had loved and lost.
"A gentle rain
falls softly on my weary eyes,
As
if to hide a lonely tear...
My
life will be forever Autumn...
Cause
you're not here.
"I will always love you Piper" Leo said to the air, before orbing back to what remained of his family.
