TWISTED SMILE

--

He died with a smile on his face. Not a peaceful smile, no, but a rather a twisted and amused smile beneath the broken white mask of Rau Le Creuset.

But why?

Was it because his plans had succeeded?

But did it? Did everything go according to his plan?

Many people would deny that, seeing as how the Earth is still spinning in the vacuum of space, and how humanity continues to live on, still fighting against one another.

So if that's not it, then why?

Maybe he was glad that the world wouldn't be destroyed after all. Because despite his hatred for humanity and its desires, he could not deny that he too, was human, that he too, had desires and did everything in his power to attain them.

Or maybe, it was because he welcomed the end to his doomed existence.

He led a painful existence, both physically and psychologically. He had no past, no future, and no sense of self, hiding behind a mask so he wouldn't gaze upon his own face.

Every living thing is born, and then it dies. He will never forget that, because that is the meaning behind someone like him.

But even so, he chose life, as if resisting something, choosing to struggle against the currents of Destiny, aided by those blue and white pills.

Because he too, had dreams and wishes. But when his dream was shattered, he didn't cry. He smiled, as if he knew all along this would happen.

AN: I dunno, random misc idea that popped in my head while waiting for inspiration for my other works... re-watched Phase 29 of Destiny, remembered Rau was smiling as he died, and this became the result (hmm, the idea sounded better in my head though...). I considered writing this through the eyes of one of the characters, but can't decide whether to use Dullindal, Rey, or Kira, so it ended up being neither. Uh, some lines are quoted from Dullindal and Rau's conversation in Phase 29.

Review? Suggestions are welcome.
