Chapter one: Discovery

He gunned the bike into 3rd and growled in frustration. Damn little punk, who the hell does he think he is bossing everyone arround? The rpm's quickly rose to 6 and the short, savage mutant sneered as if enjoying listening to the motorcycle beg for 4th. It was one of the few aspects in his life that Logan could controll and he enjoyed every minute that he had with the growling Harley.

As he came to the last bend in the road, he slammed the breaks on the motorcyle and sniffed.

He smelled blood, the blood of a human.

Great, just great. I can't just take a simple ride out of that damn house to blow off some steam, nooo I've got to go and rescue some punk who thought it would be fun to play in the woods!

Logan eased the bike of the road and set off to find the wounded soul. As he picked up on the trail he realized that the scent was fresh, and recent. His keen, almost wolf-like hearing told him that the person was breathing shallow. Crows in the branches scolded the mutant as he neared their meal and a few even dove for his head.

"Sorry guys, I won't be kicking it for a long time." He pawed at them with a rough hand and they retreated back.

It was under a fallen tree that he saw a small, bloody arm. An arm about the size of a child's.

"Oh shitt." Logan knelt and gently touched the child's arm. The pulse was feint, but definiate. When he removed his fingers to push the tree away, strong, sharp nails cut into his hand.

"Plea...please." The child was consious.

"Hang in there kiddo, I'm going to move this tree off'a you ok?"

"No." The nails dug deeper into Logan's hand as the arm pulled out the rest of the childs bruised and bleeding body. "The tree didn't do it."

"Sure kid, whatever you say." He smiled and brushed the child's hair aside to find that her eyes were like a blackened mirror. She grinned right before passing out.into Logan's arms.

As he sped back to the mansion all he could think about was those eyes and the adoring smile that shone through them.
