Izumi dipped one finger into the koi pond as he stirred the fish from their resting place, finding no amusement in this today he turned to look up into the sky a hand to his chin as he boredly watched the clouds float by.
Izumi wasn't one to be bored, he could find amusement in almost anything, but today his mind wandered.
"Izummmi-kun are you love sick?" His ghost like partner chanted as he floated about.
"No," Was his simple answer, he had no patience for Jonathan's teasing today.
"Really?" Jonathan spun about his head as he tugged on his dog-eared cap.
Izumi sighed as he noticed a tiny insect getting in the way of his eye sight, he wasn't really looking at anything important just Takuto and Mitsuki arguing about something or other but because of his annoying partner his nerves were on end and he quickly swatted the bug away. As he watched it's tiny soul disappear to wherever bugs go when they died, the chief had never told him.
"Izumi!" Izumi turned as he heard his name to the sound of Mitsuki's saddened voice, Takuto had apparently already gone inside.
"What is it?" He answered sitting up as he watched her run up to the tiny insect's now dead body.
She slowly pulled out a handkerchief and place it inside the softest part before placing it beside the koi pond as if to venerate it.
Izumi watched her with confusion before asking, "Why are you going to all that trouble for a mere bug?"
Mitsuki looked up with a sad smile on her face as she explained, "Well I know what it's like to be on the brink of death so, so I thought maybe it would help to comfort it. Life is precious you know?"
Izumi blinked with surprise before Mitsuki laughed bashfully, "I guess that's kind of silly though right, I mean you're a shinigami!"
She said all this with a smile while saying something to Jonathan, which served to confuse Izumi even more.
How could she be smiling?
Izumi had seen many strange things in this half-life of his but Mitsuki was perhaps the strangest.
This girl who could only stay on this earth for less then a year was worrying about such a lower life form, one that meant nothing to her or should have.
Izumi had harvested many souls in his day and yet here Mitsuki was giving some speck of life a final resting place.
In comparison, he felt so… dirty.
This now brought him back to that day, the day the both of them had found a lost kitten and she had sat by his side.
Touching his unreachable heart.
"I'm sorry," Izumi murmured as he put a hand on Mitsuki's arm.
Mitsuki looked up to him and laughed, "It's alright I'm sure you didn't mean to!"
Izumi smiled softly, she didn't seem to get it.
"Here I'll help." He said digging a small hole to bury it in,
"Okay!"
As both the human and the spirit of death worked near the small koi pond Izumi pondered his thoughts.
I who have tried to take this girl's life countless times now seem to have completely forgotten it.
He turned to her as she busily perfected their work until she finally lowered the bug into the hole handkerchief and all while saying a silent prayer.
"I'm sorry…"
Mitsuki looked up into Izumi's eyes and smiled once more, "Really don't worry about it!"
"Let's go inside now." He said as he quickly grabbed her hand leading her to the house.
Mitsuki laughed feeling like a child once more.
One day soon I hope to walk with you like this again and this time I'll be the one to point out the clearing sky.

Incase any of you are confused about the title, it's because this story was based after a song with the same name by Sarah Groves. It's a very touching song in my point of veiw and really reminded me of Izumi's past.
Anyway this obviously is more for the manga Izumi then anything since anime Izumi is kinda evil.oO; (If only they animated his past,) Also if you thought this was meant to be romance it wasn't, it was more like in Arina Tanemura's words how Mitsuki is Izumi's shining light.
