Chapter 11

Vincent and Marcel arrived at the cabin in the bayou at noon on the dot just as Elijah strode out from the woods.

"Gentleman?" Elijah gestured as he opened the door for them to enter before him. "So who are we meeting?"

"My name is Jane Ann." The tiny brunette said confidently as she came out of the back room, pushing the dried herbs hanging in the doorway out of the way. "Vincent?"

"Jane Ann." He leaned in and kissed her hand. "We came to see if you could help us with a friend."

"You should keep better company." She said disapprovingly as she looked to Elijah.

"I assure you we aren't in town to cause any havoc. Your help would be greatly appreciated." Elijah said in his usual charming manner. Marcel rolled his eyes.

"Is this about the vampire girl you guys have been courting around the treme for weeks?" She looked knowingly to Marcel. "I know things have been differently lately, and I'm not even going to pretend it wasn't mostly due to her, but I don't like to get involved in vampire business."

Well that secret was out. Marcel sighed and looked over to Elijah as he raised his eyebrow in question.

"Vampire girl?" Elijah said in an accusing tone.

"So it's not about her?" Jane Ann butted in.

"No it's-"

"We are speaking of my brother Niklaus." Elijah said more firmly.

"It's about both of them." Vincent cut in putting his hand up to try to stop the fight he could feel brewing between Marcel and Elijah.

"What is going on?" Elijah spoke more menacingly this time looking around at the scene before him. "Speak."

The silence carried on as Marcel's mind raced on what to admit and what to keep hidden.

"Marcel."

"Look – our friend – she – the same thing happened to her just like it happened to Klaus." Marcel spoke directly to Jane Ann this time. "One minute she was fine, the next she had a headache, then she was out. When she woke up her mind was wiped. She remembered minimal details. How she got there, her family and that she was a vampire."

"And she spoke as if she was possessed? Of fate?" Elijah questioned.

"Exactly how you said it happened with Klaus." He nodded.

"Strange. What did they say when they were out?" she questioned deep in thought. It almost sounded like-

"Let fate play out." Marcel and Elijah spoke at the same time.

"I'll have to try and consult with the ancestors. That's even if they speak to me about it." She quirked an eyebrow up. "Grab me those candles Vincent. And the sage."

It was quiet as she chanted lightly channeling into her ancestors.

Jane Ann stopped and laughed. The men stared at her as if she had 3 heads.

"Am I missing the joke?" Elijah shifted confused.

"They're mates." She shook her head and laughed to herself again. It was so rare. She couldn't even believe the ancestors freely allowed her the answer since they hated vampire business. "Listen, I don't know what happened to your friend but I do know the type of person Klaus is. Magic like what you're describing is powerful. Mystic Mates are so rare as it is. There really have only been a handful of true mystic mates throughout history. They're always supernatural creatures and they're always brought together one way or another for a bigger purpose. For the greater good. My guess is both of them had pasts that couldn't allow for them to meet in the physical realm so the ancestors intervened."

"That's ridiculous." Marcel scoffed. Klaus killed Elena. The Mikaelson's had no clue she was even still alive.

"What's so ridiculous about it?" Jane Ann pushed Marcel a little. She could tell he was holding something back, something he didn't want Elijah to know.

"I've never heard of mystic mates. Come on you don't really believe that do you?" He smirked at Elijah, hoping for Elena's sake it wasn't true.

"I have." Vincent said quietly in thought. "There's some things we left out." He said looking up to Elijah and Jane Ann. "Before I continue I require everyone in this room's trust. An oath. Take an oath now that after what is said we keep this a secret and protect the girl."

"Presumptuous. How about you speak then I decide if I can keep to that oath." Elijah eyes hardened.

"You have my word Vincent." Jane Ann vowed seriously.

"The girl – she's a traveler."

Jane Ann gasped.

"I've heard the stories." Elijah again shifted, intrigued.

"She came through the standing stone circle in North Carolina, from the past."

"And why is she to be protected? And what exactly does this have to do with them being mates."

"If you've heard the stories then you know witches are the protectors of the travelers. The guides of fate. Which makes this all the more rare. Travelers are usually human. To have a vampire traveler that is at the same place and time as it's mate…it's never been documented." Jane Ann said in awe. "It's beautiful."

"No, it's dangerous." Marcel cut in. "When fate brings together two people like this, it's big. People will come after her."

"Why is that I might ask Marcellus?"

"Her blood." Jane Ann's voice tinged with worry. "Traveler blood and the blood of two mystic mates are a powerful, powerful binding agent. Those two things combined could be used for horrible things."

"Will you agree now to keep this a secret?" Vincent nodded at Elijah.

"You have my word." He nodded. "What about their memories? Can we restore them?"

"I can try. I'll have to consult with the ancestors; it may take me a while. In the meantime they can't meet. Fate will be conspiring to make them cross paths and if they cross paths they will start the bonding process, the mating ritual will be complete if you will. Once that happens I don't know if I can stop whatever is in play. I may not be able to get their memories back if that's how this plays out."

"I will do my best. Who is she? So I know if I need to intervene."

"I think we should keep her name to ourselves for now." Marcel nodded sternly.

"How do you expect me to keep someone safe and away from my brother when I have no clue who they are Marcellus?"

"No I think he's right." Jane Ann agreed not knowing the weight of what she was agreeing to. "You're family and therefore intertwined. If you aren't aware of her energy it'll help to not draw it closer to Klaus."

Marcel and Vincent shared a knowing look. Klaus Mikaelson was a threat the Elena Gilbert, they were mates but if the memories came back it could put a kink in the chain and it could end badly. They're lost memories were the only thing keeping Elena safe from him at this point.

Everyone parted, with everyone's part to play in mind.

"Where is Elena today?" Marcel said in a rush as they fastened their pace to the car.

"She's with Lucy. We have to catch her up; we're going to have to have all eyes on her."

"She's going to hate it." Marcel shook his head knowing she already hated being watched even though she pretended most of the time she didn't notice.
