Chapter 16: Results and a Cookie
Everyone who participated sat in the backstage. Feelings of nervousness, anxiousness, and excitement have began to overwhelm them. Before, after the recent performance, they spoke of what they thought of each other, and Nicky got into a fight with Asuka. Shinji backed away and stayed with Kaworu who was just sitting and watching them. Shinji, being embarrassed walked away and returned late to see them in complete and utter silence.
Finally, after taking a deep breath, Shinji spoke up, "You guys-
"Ok, so it doesn't matter who wins right?" Hikari said interrupting him.
Shinji frowned and sat down, Hikari gave him a sorry look and continued to talk.
"No hard feelings right?"
"Sure…" Mana and Rei said at once fiddling with their fingers.
"Are you thinking that you're going to win?" Nicky asked growing angry.
"No…" Hikari responded flustered.
"Are you accusing my friend of pride? You-"
"KIDS!" Misato called to them and they faced her, all the guys sweat dropped as Asuka and Nicky pushed each other down.
"What is it?" Asuka asked eyes wide.
"Yeah, yeah tell us!"
"Come outside…" Misato said in a serious tone. The children faced her with a concerned look, well except for Touji.
"What's with that tone? You're so weird!" he laughed and laughed until Asuka kicked him and Hikari pulled him away.
Misato then burst out laughing and continued to pull them out.
"Ok everyone in the audience! We are now to present our top three!" Misato smiled and waved her arm.
Soon there was silence and they all stared at her. Misato then pulled out an envelope, and opened it.
Sweat trickled down Asuka and Nicky's faces, actually they all had at least one sweat drop falling down. The suspense seriously killed them.
"Ok," Misato began smiling, she turned to them, then the audience with a huge grin.
"Third we have is…Suzahara Touji!" she announced proudly, she turned to the children and saw a mouth opened, wide eyed Touji.
"Congratulations Touji!" Hikari said hugging him.
"Wow," he said and walked up to her and received a ribbon with a 3 and a paper with his evaluations.
Staring at the paper he looked up at Hikari and then down at his paper.
" So, 'Confessing your love,' gives you extra marks eh?" he laughed and left back stage.
Asuka was pretty amazed that Touji won, but it was only third.
"Ok then, second we have…a tie between Asuka and Hikari!"
The two smiled and gave each other high fives. Asuka stuck out her tongue to Nicky and walked backstage.
"There's still first," Nicky said smirking as Asuka left.
"First we have, Shinji!"
Shinji looked around and stared at the crowd as they clapped. He smiled and blushed, he then took his prize and left. Everyone else left, no one really cared except for Nicky who yapped on for a looong time.
"Oh yeah," Misato said as the crowd left, the children got back on to hear what happened.
"The winner for the pairing one is…Shinji and Asuka!"
Shinji turned to Asuka and they smiled and embraced. They walked up to take the prize…It was a cookie. The split it and it was quite good. Shinji still red walked away with Asuka holding his hand. They smiled and kissed as Asuka started arguing with Nicky again…
